The 7th Township Economy Summit brought together passionate township entrepreneurs, corporates and community builders — and our Skills & Youth Development Team was honoured to be part of the movement.

Each day reminded us that talent lives in every corner of our communities and echoed everything we stand for — hope, empowerment and mindset change. As we continue to upskill young people through culinary, carpentry, sewing, hair & beauty, gardening and more, we see how, with the right support, love, skills and belief, they can rise with dignity and confidence to transform their lives and their futures.

We return encouraged, connected and more committed than ever to uplifting the youth of Missionvale — creating pathways to employment, entrepreneurship and long-term prosperity.

We are so grateful to our newly introduced friend of Missionvale, who funded all the pads and visited for the drive, connected through one of our long-standing friends who also joined us volunteering.

Thanks to their kindness, and the church community who donated a cheque towards our work, sanitary packs were shared with our Normoyle Primary learners, After school program students & our youth skills development candidates.

Even our little ones and boys took some home for their mothers and sisters, extending the care beyond our gates. 💙

Over the past three days, our ITDC (skills development programme) candidates helped clean and restore parts of Central through the initiative — putting their training into action and gaining real work experience while making a real difference.

TidyNMB is a people-powered partnership bringing residents, businesses, schools, churches, councillors and the municipality together to clean our streets, create jobs, and rebuild pride in Nelson Mandela Bay.

If your business, school, church, or household wants to be part of this growing city-wide movement, you can join as a supporter:

🌱 Residents: R50–R100/month
🌱 Support Sponsors: R250/month
🌱 Premiere Sponsors: R1500/month

Your contribution directly funds youth employment, street clean-ups, branded bins and visible change across Nelson Mandela Bay.

Over the past week, we had the privilege of hosting a powerful series of workshops on “Maladaptive Behaviour Due to Substance Use Issues”, led by Musa Aminu from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in collaboration with Khirana Healthcare and Social Enterprise. 💙

This workshop touched us deeply…
From the family and community sessions, where people allowed themselves to be vulnerable enough, to open up about coping, healing and supporting loved ones dealing with drug abuse, to the staff sessions, where we learned practical ways to identify, respond to and assist individuals facing substance use challenges in our community.

The whole four day experience reminded us how important compassion, understanding and shared learning are in breaking the stigma and walking the journey of recovery together. 💙

We hope to continue building clear pathways and finding the right resources to assist our people — because within every person struggling with addiction lies talent, value and incredible potential waiting to be rediscovered. If we can keep coming together, supporting and uplifting one another, we can help more individuals find hope and purpose again. 💙

Fig Tree Legacy Fund Launch in Honour of our late dearest founder — Sister Ethel Normoyle. 💙

We proudly launched the Legacy Fund in honour of our beloved founder, at the Boardwalk Hotel and Conference Centre.

This fund is created to ensure the continuation of Sister Ethel’s extraordinary legacy. It will sustain her life-changing work in the vulnerable community of Missionvale. What began under a wild fig tree in 1988 has grown into a beacon of hope and love, touching thousands of lives through compassion, empowerment and service.

With a goal to raise R30 million over the next five years, this will focus on education and training programmes that empower the next generation, making sure that Sister Ethel’s mission of uplifting others continues to flourish.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our generous sponsors and all who made this meaningful evening possible. To our guests, loyal donors and new friends hearing about Missionvale for the first time, thank you so much for joining hearts and hands in support of this cause. Your presence and contributions keep Sister Ethel’s light burning bright.

As we continue to honour her dream, we believe that Sister Ethel is smiling down on us, proud to see her Missionvale family carrying forward her promise to “give only the best to the poor” with dignity and love.

We encourage everyone to stay connected, get involved and support the Fig Tree Legacy Fund — so that her work and spirit may continue to transform lives for generations to come.

We proudly attended the Foundation’s Annual White Cane Awareness Day at Walmer MPC hall, honouring the strength and independence of the blind and partially sighted community.

As an organization that is committed to a holistic approach to care, supporting people with various impairments and needs, we recognise the importance of promoting dignity, autonomy and inclusion for all.

Hearing lived experiences reminds us that true inclusion starts with awareness and empathy. Events like these strengthens our mission to ensure everyone feels seen, supported and valued.💙
