PE Vein

PE Vein Our vision is to develop excellence in the management of venous disorders, specifically varicose vei

By assembling a multidisciplinary team of clinicians interested in the treatment of varicose veins, we aim to achieve both academic and clinical excellence. We feel that the management of venous disease is a specialized field that has long been neglected in SA. The assessment and understanding of venous disease is complex, thus needing a dedicated multidisciplinary team approach. We offer therapies apart from open surgery ( laser, radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy) that has been the gold standard treatment in the rest of the world in the last 10 years, but has not been available in South Africa. These therapies offer pain-free, non-surgical and very effective treatment of venous disease. These therapies are offered as in-room procedures, not requiring hospitalization. Our aim is thus to revolutionize the assessment and treatment of varicose veins and venous ulcers in Port Elizabeth. VNUS procedure: under sedation and local anaesthetic, a catheter is inserted into the varicose vein at the level of the knee and advanced to the groin. The catheter is carefully positioned under ultrasound guidance and the vein is destroyed using high frequency waves. Foam sclerotherapy: a special foam chemical is injected into veins causing the vein walls to stick together. This leads to destruction of the vein over the next few weeks. Ambulatory phlebectomy: specialized hooks and needles are inserted under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance to remove veins. Venous surgery and stripping: this traditional therapy will be offered to selected patients who are a high sedation risk, or whose anatomy is not suitable for the above procedures. This is done under general anesthetic and requires hospitalization. Our Specialist are:

Think spider veins are harmless? 🧵 They’re not always just cosmetic.

They can signal deeper vein issues, especially if they itch, burn, or worsen from standing too long.

Genetics and hormones play a big role — and the sooner you treat them, the better the results.

💙 At PE Vein, we treat both the surface and the source.

Weird body fact: Your veins have one-way doors! 🚪🩵

They’re called valves, and their job is to keep blood flowing upward toward your heart — especially in your legs.

But when those little valves weaken or fail, blood can start pooling downward. That’s when varicose veins show up. 😩

Fact: Your veins can get worse while you sleep. 😮🛌

People with untreated varicose veins often experience leg cramps and restless legs at night — disrupting sleep and recovery.

This happens because of poor blood flow and pressure buildup in the veins while you're lying down.

💙 The good news? PE Vein offers proven treatments that don’t just improve how your legs look — but how you sleep.

Crossing your legs while sitting?

It might feel comfortable, but your veins disagree! 🪑🦵

This common habit can restrict blood flow and increase pressure in your leg veins over time — especially if you’re prone to varicose or spider veins.

The good news? Simple daily changes like sitting with both feet flat can support better circulation and vein health.

💙 At PE Vein, we’re all about small changes that lead to lasting leg comfort. Ready to take the next step toward healthy, happy legs?

You may notice dark patches, dryness, or even eczema on your lower legs.
