The road to a pediatric feeding disorder (PFD) diagnosis is rarely straightforward. For many families, it starts with a concern that’s often dismissed if weight and growth seem “normal.” But staying on the growth chart doesn’t always mean everything is okay.

In a new blog post, we explore the importance of thorough assessments, collaboration across disciplines, and the tools families and clinicians can use to advocate for effective feeding support.

Because the right way to do feeding treatment? It’s the way that works for the family and the child.

As parents, we know it’s impossible to research every game and program our kids use! There’s so much out there — the good, the bad, and everything in between — and we want to protect our children from the not-so-great while highlighting the awesome stuff.

One of our goals, based on your feedback from our online screen time questionnaire, is to provide honest reviews of games and programs — sharing both the pros and cons — so you can make informed decisions for your family.

Encourage your kids and teens to be totally honest in their responses! And here’s the fun part: their answers are completely anonymous, so they can speak their minds without any worries. 🙌

I saw another Mama yesterday.

One of us.

Often when I’m out with my son, particularly in crowded places when all the other families are simply living with what looks like real ease, I feel the full force of loneliness. I feel the full sense of ‘I am the only one doing this life.’

So when I see another Special Needs Mama, my heart always skips a beat.

I want to rush at her and hug her. I want to tell her how hard I know she works. I want to tell her how proud I am of her and how selfless she is and I want to tell her that I know this life isn’t one she dreamt up for herself or even one she knew she’d be in for but how in awe of her I am that she is doing it and how brave she is and how I know she doesn’t always feel it but she is so strong and I can see that and, well, you know. I just want to tell her everything that’s in my heart that I know is for her,

But, also, I know the delicate and difficult parts of being in public with a child who has additional needs and I know the focus and all that’s needed and the triggers that happen and I know sometimes, just a smile says everything.

We were both on a walk. Both pushing our kids in their chairs. Both moving at a fast pace that said ‘this walk is for me just as much as it is for them because I am feeling it all right now’. Both eardrum deep into music or a podcast from our headphones and both keeping both eyes on the direction we’re heading and on our child for any small sign of communication or struggle or uncomfortable.

We were both passing each other from opposite directions and immediately my heart did its thing.

She saw me too and it was like a strange, familiar connection.

I saw so much strength as she pushed that chair ahead of her. So much tenacity and courage and determination and love all wrapped up in one resilient stride.

I smiled and she returned it, but it didn’t feel like enough.

So as we got closer I reached out my hand to give her a high five and she did the same but for the smallest moment, for just more than a second, it was more of a hand clasp and not just a high five.

We gripped each others hand and held tightly for a dot of a second as if to say;

“Girl, I’m with you. I see you. We’ve got this, you rock.”

And let me tell you friends, the power and love and solidarity that was in that simple moment, was everything.

I felt like silently she said to me everything I wanted to say to her and it filled my entire soul.

There’s not quite a thing more cushioning along this journey than knowing you’re not in this alone. Nothing holds your heart softer or carries your soul closer or pulls you up higher, like knowing you’re not doing this by yourself.

Nothing keeps you going like someone saying they’re in this with you.

Keep going Mama.
I’m in this with you, and, I love you.
Love, Christine x Special Soul Mama
