To all of my amazing patients and colleagues, I hope 2021 has started smoothly for you all.
I was blessed to be able to spend some restful time with my wonderful family in December. I had not seen my mother for almost a year and sometimes when life is challenging, all a guy needs is a hug from his Mom. And her legendary desserts of course!
I don't think 2020 was the year that anyone had wished it to be...but it did bring clear focus : apart from good health it is undeniably family, friendship and community that keep our hearts beating and help us to truly live, not just survive.
My beautiful children and wife continue to be such a source of love and strength and I am deeply grateful to share my life with them. My daughter, Iris, says her goals for 2021 are "to dance and hug more" and I think those are pretty solid goals.
As we move into this new year the distressing reality is that many of us have lost colleagues, friends and loved ones to this dreadful virus. But Covid-19 will not win. As sons and daughters, as parents, as healthcare workers and as members of our resilient communities we are stronger than the virus. And we will pick up the pieces - and most importantly help others to pick up theirs - and move forward into 2021 with the blazing fire of conviction to end this darkness.
Thank you to my “work family”, my phenomenal staff at the practice, for adapting to all of our new health and safety protocol so competently in 2020 and now in this new year for unwaveringly protecting our patients! I am so proud to work with such an amazing team.
I'm also hugely grateful to all of the extraordinary staff of the Eye and Laser Institute and the Medical Forum Theatre (MFT) as well as the brilliant anaesthetists that I am blessed to work with. I love being a surgeon but getting to operate in such an epic theatre and with such exceptional people takes it to a whole other level.
2021 we are coming for you... let’s do this! Together.
