General Medical Family Practice
Our medical practitioners have been schooled and trained at South African Medical Schools and Hospitals and maintain an active ongoing programme of medical education.
Dr Mike Henry (MBChB, DCH)attended UCT Medical School and underwent an internship at Livingstone Hospital where he also continued to gain further experience as a Medical Officer in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery and Paediatrics. He also worked as a Medical Officer in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dora Nginza Hospital where he underwent training in Ultrasound.He obtained a DCH certification (Diploma in Child Health) with the South African College of Medicine after one and a half years working as a Medical Officer in all aspects of child care including premature babies in ICU. He has many special medical interests including men’s , woman’s and child health, Asthma (he became an Accredited Asthma Educator in 2002 with the National Asthma Education Program of South Africa and the National Respiratory Training Centre (NRTC) of the United Kingdom), Allergy, contraception, HIV care, conscious sedation (completed a two year Diploma in Sedation and Pain Control with the University of the Western Cape), dermatological surgical procedures and Aesthetics (Botox, fillers and Liposculpture)(Board Certified with the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine).He can offer early pregnancy sonar, informal pregnancy scanning at any gestational age, plus insertion of the Mirena Intrauterine device after sonar assessment. He entered Private medical family practice in 1989.
Dr Carla van Deventer (MBChB) attended The University of Stellenbosch Medical School. Carla is completely bilingual in both English and Afrikaans. She completed her Internship and Community Service at Livingstone Hospital where she gained valuable experience in Internal Medicine,Paediatrics (Child Care), Surgery (both General and Paediatric), Orthopaedics, Opthalmology (Eye care) and Urology. She has been in Private General Family medicine Practice in PE since 2002 and so carries a wealth of experience in managing the multiple conditions seen in this medical discipline. Her Special intersts include woman’s health (physical checkups,Pap smears,Contraception,Menopause care and Mirena insertions) as well as emotional and mental wellbeing (recognition and treatment of Anxiety,depression and Concentration problems), Children’s health and the treatment of Asthma, Allergy, Hypertension and Diabetes. She also practices Aesthetic medicine, administering Botox and fillers and enjoys performing minor dermatological (skin) procedures like removing moles, warts and other skin lesions. She is the only Slender Wonder medical practitioner at WBFP, with many years of experience in this field.
Dr Lize van den Berg (MBChB) completed her medical degree at Stellenbosch University. Lize is completely bilingual in both English and Afrikaans.Her first year of internship was done at Grootte Schuur Hospital, the second year at Livingstone Hospital. Her Community Service year at the SANDF focused on the management of general medical conditions and medical and surgical emergencies. Since 2013 she has been working in private general medical practice and has developed a special interest in woman’s health (contraception, breast examinations,Pap smears, hormone replacement therapy and menopausal health), child health and mental health (support and management of Anxiety and Depression). She has stayed up to date with Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses and assists a weekly surgical list for a local surgeon. She performs minor surgical procedures like excision of moles and freezing of warts. Dr Lize is capable and comfortable in assessing and assisting all members of the family and managing conditions like Hypertension, Diabetes, Asthma, Allergy and HIV.She joined us in 2017 and has proved to be a dedicated caring doctor who relates well to people.
