Gentechnik in Europa

Die Europäische Kommission, der Europäische Rat und das Europäische Parlament, die sogenannten Trilog-Parteien der Europäischen Union, haben sich im vergangenen Dezember nach langwierigen Verhandlungen auf einen Kompromiss bezüglich der Regulierung neuer Gentechniken (NGT) geeinigt. Der vorgelegte Text sieht eine Deregulierung von rund 94 Prozent aller mit NGT veränderten Pflanzen vor – mit alarmierenden Folgen für Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher sowie für Betriebe, die nach den Prinzipien des ökologischen Landbaus wirtschaften. Zu den wichtigsten Punkten des Textes gehören die Patentierung von gentechnisch veränderten Pflanzen und Verfahren, ein beschleunigtes Zulassungsverfahren ohne umfassende Risikoprüfung und der Wegfall einer verpflichtenden Kennzeichnung entsprechender Lebensmittel. Die Mehrheit von mit NGT veränderten Pflanzen würde somit konventionell gezüchteten Pflanzen gleichgestellt und beim Einkauf wäre es kaum nachvollziehbar, ob ein Nahrungsmittel mithilfe von Gentechnik produziert wurde oder nicht. Es handelt sich um eine historische Entscheidung: Europa wurde lange als der letzte Kontinent gesehen, dessen Landwirtschaft fast frei von Gentechnik ist. Die Trilog-Parteien begründen ihre Entscheidung unter anderem damit, dass gentechnisch veränderte Pflanzen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Ernährungssicherheit spielen werden; weder Forschung noch Erfahrung können diese Behauptung jedoch belegen. Kritikerinnen und Kritiker sehen in der Deregulierung von NGTs das bisher geltende Vorsorgeprinzip ausgehebelt und die Ernährungssouveränität sowie Wahlfreiheit von Verbraucherinnen und Verbrauchern massiv gefährdet. Auch die Konsequenzen für landwirtschaftliche Betriebe sind weitreichend. Der vorgelegte Trilog-Text erwähnt keinerlei Schutzmaßnahmen für Betriebe, die nicht an der Verwendung von ngts teilhaben wollen. Er sieht zwar einen Verhaltenskodex für Patentinhaber vor, kritische Stimmen erwarten jedoch nicht mehr als unverbindliche Mahnungen, auf kleinere Züchter Rücksicht zu nehmen. Es sei nun noch wichtiger, in der NGT-unabhängigen Pflanzenzüchtung und Saatgutproduktion gut aufgestellt zu sein, betonen Verbände für biodynamische und ökologische Landwirtschaft. Sie appellieren zudem an das Europäische Parlament und den Europäischen Rat, die dem Entwurf im Frühjahr noch zustimmen müssen, genau dies nicht zu tun. Weiterhin rufen sie Verbraucher dazu auf, in Petitionen und Briefen an Politikerinnen ihre Stimme gegen Gentechnik hörbar zu machen.

This account from a Venezuelan security guard loyal to Nicolás Maduro is absolutely chilling—and it explains a lot about why the tone across Latin America suddenly changed.

Security Guard: On the day of the operation, we didn't hear anything coming. We were on guard, but suddenly all our radar systems shut down without any explanation. The next thing we saw were drones, a lot of drones, flying over our positions. We didn't know how to react. Interviewer: So what happened next? How was the main attack?

Security Guard: After those drones appeared, some helicopters arrived, but there were very few. I think barely eight helicopters. From those helicopters, soldiers came down, but a very small number. Maybe twenty men. But those men were technologically very advanced. They didn't look like anything we've fought against before.

Security Guard: No, not at all. Those twenty men, without a single casualty, killed hundreds of us. We had no way to compete with their technology, with their weapons. I swear, I've never seen anything like it. We couldn't even stand up after that sonic weapon or whatever it was.

Interviewer: So do you think the rest of the region should think twice before confronting the Americans?

Security Guard: Without a doubt. I'm sending a warning to anyone who thinks they can fight the United States. They have no idea what they're capable of. After what I saw, I never want to be on the other side of that again. They're not to be messed with.

Interviewer: And now that Trump has said Mexico is on the list, do you think the situation will change in Latin America?

Security Guard: Definitely. Everyone is already talking about this. No one wants to go through what we went through. Now everyone thinks twice. What happened here is going to change a lot of things, not just in Venezuela but throughout the region.

They perfected it's use on Americans now they are using it at scale. Remember Becker's discuussion about the Moscow Embassy and hazard pay in 1973? For anyone contemplating getting an influenza vaccine (flu shot) or planning to pressure or mandate someone else to get one:

A meta-analysis of existing flu shot studies of healthy children by Cochrane (effectively owned by vaccine zealot Bill Gates) concluded that despite decades of published studies, it “could find no convincing evidence that [flu] vaccines can reduce mortality, hospital admissions, serious complications, or community transmission of influenza.” [1]

Read that carefully: no convincing evidence—none—that flu shots lowered the chances of dying, being admitted to the hospital, suffering serious complications from the flu, or transmitting flu to others.

In fact, studies have found those vaccinated for flu have a statistically significant increased rate of respiratory illnesses. Meaning, it increases the risk of having other respiratory illnesses.

For example, a placebo-controlled efficacy (not safety) study by researchers at the University of Hong Kong compared children receiving influenza vaccine with those who did not receive the vaccine. The study found no statistical difference in the rate of influenza between the groups but did find the vaccinated had a four times increased rate of non-influenza infections (“recipients had an increased risk of virologically confirmed non-influenza infections (relative risk: 4.40; 95% confidence interval: 1.31-14.8)”). [2]

As another example, researchers at Columbia University found that the risk of “influenza in individuals during the 14-day post-vaccination period was similar to unvaccinated individuals during the same period (HR 0.96, 95% CI [0.60, 1.52])” but that the risk of “non-influenza respiratory pathogens was higher [in the vaccinated individuals] during the same period (HR 1.65, 95% CI [1.14, 2.38]).” [3]

A study by the Cleveland Clinic of 53,402 of its employees across multiple states even found an increased risk of influenza among those vaccinated for influenza, explaining that the “cumulative incidence of influenza was similar for the vaccinated and unvaccinated states early, but over the course of the study the cumulative incidence of influenza increased more rapidly among the vaccinated than the unvaccinated.” [4]

That said: get a flu shot, don’t get a fu shot. That’s freedom. Everyone should be free to choose. But nobody should be coerced to get this or any medical product, especially, ironically, when the data reflects it has a net overall increase in infections.
