A Memorable Milestone at Edge Day Hospital

Edge Day Hospital proudly celebrates a significant first for both our facility and the city of Gqeberha: the successful completion of an Oxford Procedure (partial knee replacement) performed in a day-hospital setting. The surgery was carried out by the highly experienced and accomplished Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Vikesh P Gajjar and his dedicated team.
The patient—a healthy, active 51-year-old woman with minimal comorbidities—was an ideal candidate for this procedure with a short term hospital stay. This achievement marks not only an important milestone for Edge Day Hospital but also a promising beginning, as we anticipate many more such surgeries in the future.
Across South Africa and around the world, partial and total knee replacements are increasingly being performed in day hospitals. Advancements in surgical techniques, alongside the ongoing pursuit of cost-effective, high-quality care, continue to drive this growing trend.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Vikesh P Gajjar, Dr. PJ du Toit (Anaesthetist), Dr. Kim Friggens (Assistant), and our exceptional Scrub Team for their expertise and commitment, which ensured the success of this landmark procedure.

Nestled on the hill overlooking the picturesque Baakens Valley, Edge Day Hospital 🏨offers various specialty surgeries with Orthopaedics being one of our leading categories.

Orthopaedic Surgeons👨‍⚕️ Dr Peter Botha and Dr Theunis Botha recently successfully completed a CMC (carpometacarpal) joint replacement surgery… a first for Edge Day Hospital. We would like to extend an official welcome to Dr Peter Botha and look forward to reaching new heights in Orthopaedic Day Surgery. 🦿

The convenience of same day surgery, efficient processes as well as cost effective treatment, in the ambiance of a serene environment, will see more surgeries of this nature in future at Edge Day Hospital as we embark on the phase 2 expansion of our hospital.

Nominated for their dedication and perseverance in ensuring that the ward was efficiently staffed day and night in the period June-Aug with no cost implication to the company. 💙Their sacrifices and long hours are acknowledged and appreciated. 💉Their actions resulted in not only cost saving but patient & doctor satisfaction during this time. 💶⏰

Nominated for literally being the sharpest tool in the box 🪛Jamie is the epitome of the term “team player”. He assists in every department with tasks unrelated to his job. He has contributed greatly to efficiency in our maintenance costs 💰as he has taken initiative to learn tasks that would normally require a contractor onsite👷🏼‍♂️🔧, as well as exercised great negotiation skills to earn us discounts on products and services. 🧮 He has also formulated an excellent document for guidance on Fire Drills to ensure our compliance and safety. 🧯

Today was not only Women’s Day it has also been the celebration of Four Years of Excellence since we opened our doors at Edge Day Hospital. What better way to celebrate a birthday, than to give back to the community. 💚🫂
A small gesture with great appreciation- a sponsorship to a local kids soccer club, Hotspurs, saw them receive training bibs, training cones, soccer balls as well as a fulfilled day! ⚽️⚽️
