Then and now… the same beautiful trio, years apart. A mother and her two daughters — a bond that time can never change. Feeling so blessed to share in these moments. Sending lots of love to Aunty Peggy, Mary, and Maureen 💕

41 years ago, two nurses worked side by side in Provincial ICU. 💙

Today, by pure chance, they found themselves holding hands again — this time while booking in, one already a resident and the other soon to be.

Life has the most beautiful way of bringing people back together. ✨

All our residents and carers shared plenty of smiles (and a few sprinkles!) as we decorated cookies together for an early Valentine’s Day 💕

There was laughter, creativity, and lots of sweet treats to enjoy. It’s often the simplest activities that bring the greatest joy — and create the most treasured memories. 💗🍪

Home away from home 🏡💖
At our centre, we believe that moving in doesn’t mean leaving you behind. We encourage families to bring along our residents’ favourite and meaningful items — the things that make them feel comfortable, confident, and themselves.

For some, that’s their makeup. Many of our residents have always taken pride in how they look, and that shouldn’t change with age.

It’s the little moments — a touch of lipstick, a familiar necklace — that help our residents feel special, dignified, and deeply loved. 💗

Meet Bailey 🐾
She joined us last year looking for a home, and it didn’t take long for her to find one right here at Lorient Centre 💛
Bailey is a permanent resident, bringing comfort, companionship, and many smiles to our days. Proof that sometimes, we care for each other in the most beautiful ways.

The flu is definitely starting to make it’s rounds 🤧💛
We’re keeping things natural, gentle, and healthy for our residents with this homemade immune-boosting mixture 🍯🍋🧅

A simple blend of raw honey, red onion, lemon, and ginger – known for supporting immunity, easing coughs, and helping keep sniffles at bay. Nature really does know best 🌿

We love using time-tested home remedies that are kind to our oldies’ bodies while giving their immune systems a little extra love.

We’d love to hear from you – what home remedies does your family swear by for flu? 💬🍯

🌼 Gentle reminder: If you are experiencing flu or flu-like symptoms, we kindly ask that you please postpone visits until you are feeling better. Flu spreads very quickly and this helps protect both our residents and our staff. Thank you for understanding and caring 💛

During this difficult time of power outages and water struggles, it’s important to pause, breathe, and stop to smell the flowers.

We are truly blessed and deeply grateful to those who have donated generators for us to use, and to everyone who has stepped in to lend a hand to support us and our residents during this time. Your kindness does not go unnoticed.

A special moment of beauty from our Luneville garden, lovingly maintained by one of our very own green-thumbed residents, Aunty Peggy. 🌸🌿

Even in challenging times, there is still so much to be thankful for.

🌸✨ Celebrating Sister Pillay ✨🌸

On Saturday we gathered to honour Sister Pillay on her retirement after 11 incredible years of service with us, and a lifetime dedicated to nursing. 💙👩‍⚕️

Her compassion, dedication, and gentle care have touched countless lives, leaving a legacy that will never be forgotten. 🌷

We wish her endless joy, rest, and happiness in this next chapter of life. Thank you Claudine, for everything you’ve given to our residents and being a part of our family. 💐💖

Where it all began

Ann's Care Centre is a frail care centre and home for the elderly specialising in Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. The Centre was founded in 2000 by Mrs Ann van der Merwe and her daughter Sister Wendy-lee Ann Badier. Ann's Care Centre is a family business run by Mrs Ann van der Merwe and her son Karl van der Merwe with help from her husband, grandchildren and niece, the centre is always filled with love and laughter. Ann, herself is a nursing practioner with 49 years nursing experience, starting her career at Mary Potter St. Joseph's, the first old age home in Port Elizabeth, she went on to establish her own nursing agency to cater for elderly patients in their own home which later gave birth to Ann's Care Centre which has become a home away from home for many of our elderly residents. With this nursing experience heading a team of qualified sisters, nurses and care givers we at Ann's care centre can ensure expert 24hr nursing care for all our elderly residents. We also provide three healthy balanced meals a day which tastes just like your mother's cooking. We strive to provide a home for our elderly patients where their every need is catered for in a safe secure environment giving the patients family peace of mind while their loved one enjoys their golden years with us.
