Liver Biopsy | Image-Guided Precision in Diagnostic Care

At Bayradiology, advanced imaging helps support accurate diagnosis and patient care. A CT-guided liver biopsy allows our radiologists to obtain a small tissue sample from the liver while using CT imaging to guide the needle precisely to the area of concern.

During this procedure, Dr Zaheer Gani, together with our experienced radiography team, performs the biopsy in a carefully monitored CT environment. This highlights the important teamwork between our radiologists and skilled radiographers, ensuring precision, patient safety, and high standards of care.

Image-guided biopsies are widely used in modern medicine to assist referring clinicians in obtaining valuable diagnostic information that may guide further medical management.

At Bayradiology, we remain committed to advanced imaging technology, professional expertise, and patient-centred care.

Bayradiology Vocational Open Day – Inspiring the Future of Radiography

Bayradiology hosted our Vocational Open Day, welcoming learners from various schools to gain first-hand insight into the field of radiography and diagnostic medical imaging.

During the event, our radiographers introduced learners to several key imaging modalities used in modern healthcare, including Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Diagnostic X-rays, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Ultrasound, Bone Density scanning, Nuclear Isotope imaging, and Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET-CT), which plays an important role in advanced diagnosis and management, particularly in the field of oncology.

To make the experience interactive and educational, learners were divided into groups, and one volunteer from each group participated in a live demonstration, allowing the other learners to observe how patients are positioned for imaging procedures during examinations. This practical demonstration helped learners better understand how radiographers work with patients while ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and high-quality diagnostic imaging.

At Bayradiology, we remain committed to educating and developing our youth, creating awareness about careers in radiography and encouraging the next generation of healthcare professionals.

We are proud to be HPCSA-accredited training partners of Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in the clinical training of Sonographers and Diagnostic Radiographers, respectively. Information about these academic pathways was shared with learners through materials included in their goody bags.

A special thank you to Mrs Hayley Hodgson, representing NMU, for taking the time to answer individual questions from learners and for providing valuable insight into the profession.

We extend our sincere thanks to the schools, learners, and teachers who attended and supported this initiative. Participating schools included:

Hillside Technical High School , Tyhilulwazi Senior Secondary School, DF Malherbe High School, Hoërskool Framesby, Hoërskool Pearson High School, Masiphathisane High School, Woolhope Secondary School, Collegiate Girls' High School, HH Academy, Westville Secondary School, Riebeek College Girls' High School, Victoria Park High School and Linkside High School.

A special thank you to our radiographers, students, and staff members, whose dedication made this educational initiative such a success. We hope to inspire future radiographers and contribute to the continued advancement of healthcare in our community.

When Seconds Matter: The Role of CT in Trauma

In severe trauma, every second counts. When a patient arrives after a motor vehicle accident, fall, or head injury, doctors must quickly determine what is happening inside the body.

Computed Tomography (CT) plays a critical role in emergency medicine. Within minutes, CT imaging can reveal internal bleeding, brain injury, organ damage, or complex fractures that may not be immediately visible during a physical examination.

In these urgent situations, our radiographers work rapidly and with precision, ensuring that high-quality images are obtained as quickly as possible. Our radiologists then interpret these images to assist the treating medical team in making fast, informed clinical decisions.

In trauma care, speed, accuracy, and teamwork are essential. Our advanced imaging provides the critical information doctors need to make rapid, life-saving decisions.

- Saturday, 11 April 2026
- Bayradiology Mangold Imaging Center, Newton Park

This educational initiative aims to introduce learners to the dynamic and rewarding fields within medical imaging, including diagnostic radiography, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. Learners will have the opportunity to explore these disciplines through hands-on demonstrations, guided tours, and interactive discussions with practicing professionals.

We invite qualifying Grade 11 learners who have shown a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the medical field.

Recommended academic indicators for consideration:
• Mathematics above 60%
• Physical Science above 50%
• Life Sciences above 60%

Session Options:
🕘 Session 1: 09:00 – 11:00
🕛 Session 2: 12:00 – 14:00

Learners may attend either Session 1 or Session 2.

We are able to accommodate up to 80 learners, with limited space allocated per school. Places will be filled on a first-replied basis, so early confirmation is encouraged.

What is a CT Scan?

A CT scan (Computed Tomography) is a medical imaging examination that uses specialised X-ray technology and advanced computer processing to create detailed cross-sectional images of the inside of the body. These images allow doctors to examine organs, bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues with greater clarity than standard X-rays.

CT scans help healthcare professionals diagnose a variety of conditions, assess injuries, and guide appropriate medical management when needed. The examination is performed following referral by a healthcare practitioner.

At Bayradiology, CT scans are performed in a safe and supportive environment. Our modern imaging suites are designed with patient comfort in mind, and our qualified radiographers will guide you through the procedure and monitor you throughout your scan to ensure a smooth and reassuring experience.

Advances in Digital Mammography

Breast imaging continues to progress with developments in digital mammography, enabling detailed visualisation of breast tissue and supporting radiologists in the careful evaluation of imaging findings.

At Bayradiology, mammography examinations are performed by qualified radiographers using modern imaging technology in accordance with established clinical and professional standards. These examinations form part of a broader diagnostic process and may be complemented by other imaging modalities, such as ultrasound or MRI, when clinically appropriate.

Our facilities are designed to provide a professional and supportive environment where patients are treated with care, dignity, and respect throughout their visit.

Breast imaging plays an important role in supporting clinicians with relevant diagnostic information and contributes to ongoing patient care and clinical decision-making.
