Bayradiology Vocational Open Day – Inspiring the Future of Radiography
Bayradiology hosted our Vocational Open Day, welcoming learners from various schools to gain first-hand insight into the field of radiography and diagnostic medical imaging.
During the event, our radiographers introduced learners to several key imaging modalities used in modern healthcare, including Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Diagnostic X-rays, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Ultrasound, Bone Density scanning, Nuclear Isotope imaging, and Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET-CT), which plays an important role in advanced diagnosis and management, particularly in the field of oncology.
To make the experience interactive and educational, learners were divided into groups, and one volunteer from each group participated in a live demonstration, allowing the other learners to observe how patients are positioned for imaging procedures during examinations. This practical demonstration helped learners better understand how radiographers work with patients while ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and high-quality diagnostic imaging.
At Bayradiology, we remain committed to educating and developing our youth, creating awareness about careers in radiography and encouraging the next generation of healthcare professionals.
We are proud to be HPCSA-accredited training partners of Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in the clinical training of Sonographers and Diagnostic Radiographers, respectively. Information about these academic pathways was shared with learners through materials included in their goody bags.
A special thank you to Mrs Hayley Hodgson, representing NMU, for taking the time to answer individual questions from learners and for providing valuable insight into the profession.
We extend our sincere thanks to the schools, learners, and teachers who attended and supported this initiative. Participating schools included:
Hillside Technical High School , Tyhilulwazi Senior Secondary School, DF Malherbe High School, Hoërskool Framesby, Hoërskool Pearson High School, Masiphathisane High School, Woolhope Secondary School, Collegiate Girls' High School, HH Academy, Westville Secondary School, Riebeek College Girls' High School, Victoria Park High School and Linkside High School.
A special thank you to our radiographers, students, and staff members, whose dedication made this educational initiative such a success. We hope to inspire future radiographers and contribute to the continued advancement of healthcare in our community.
