SciMathUS is a Stellenbosch University bridging programme that offers a second chance to educationally disadvantaged students to access higher education in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The programme provides academic literacy training, mentoring, and psychosocial support, helping students successfully transition from school to university and build a strong foundation for academic success.

Since 2019, our partnership with Stellenbosch University has been changing lives through this programme, by supporting students from our beneficiary communities in the Northern Cape (Gamagara, Ga-Segonyana, Joe Morolong, Tsantsabane) and Limpopo (Thabazimbi) to pursue their academic and career aspirations. We encourage qualifying learners from our beneficiary areas to take-up this life changing opportunity.

Rhodes University’s Centre for Social Development (CSD) in collaboration with SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) and the Northern Cape Department of Education is offering an opportunity for unemployed youth to be trained and function as Literacy Ambassadors for identified no-fee public primary schools in the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District.

Yesterday, we stood in court in solidarity with a survivor of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). While the matter was unfortunately postponed to 26 February, our presence reaffirmed an important truth: survivors are not alone.

We call on everyone to continue showing up, speaking out, and standing firm against GBV. Justice delayed must not mean justice denied, and sustained support makes a difference.

Our sincere gratitude goes to all the stakeholders who took time out of their busy schedules to stand with us and the survivor: TADS, NAWACA, Save the Children, Soul City, as well as friends, family, and the community at large. Your solidarity sends a powerful message of hope, accountability, and collective responsibility.

Let us continue to stand together against GBV in courtrooms, in communities, and in our daily lives. ✊🏾💜
