Today we celebrate Freedom Day the day our nation stepped out of oppression and into political freedom, dignity, and a new beginning.
And we honour it fully.
But we also recognise something deeper a freedom that did not begin in 1994 and cannot be taken away by any system, failure, or circumstance.
A freedom revealed through the cross of Jesus Christ.
The cross was never God changing His mind about humanity.
It was God revealing His unchanging heart toward us.
It was not the beginning of love it was the unveiling of a love that has always been.
Through His finished work, humanity was not conditionally improved humanity was restored.
Not partially completely.
Scripture anchors this clearly:
“It is finished.” — John 19:30
“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.” — 2 Corinthians 5:19
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36
This means freedom is not something we are trying to reach.
It is something we are awakening to.
We are not becoming free.
We have been made free.
Free from sin because our identity is no longer defined by it.
Free from shame because nothing can separate us from His love.
Free from guilt because reconciliation is complete.
Free from every lie that told us we were distant, broken, or disqualified.
Freedom is not a future event.
It is a present reality waiting to be recognised.
So today we celebrate:
Freedom in our land.
And the deeper truth freedom in our being.
You are not bound.
You are not broken.
You are not disqualified.
You are restored.
You are whole.
You are included in Christ.
You are free.
Let this day be more than remembrance.
Let it be revelation.
