Bacteria can be divided into five categories to better understand their role in va**nal health.
๐ฉทThe first two categories are types of ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ bacteria, specifically ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ and ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐. These bacteria produce lactic acid, which keeps the va**nal pH around 4.5. This acidic environment helps prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Women with these two bacteria are often considered to have a "healthy" va**nal microbiome, and a Lactobacillus-dominated microbiome is linked to better reproductive outcomes.
๐ฉทThirdly, ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ , which produces less lactic acid than the other ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ species, can result in a higher pH compared to women with other ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ -dominated groups. This group is common and does not always mean an unhealthy state, but it can increase the risk of bacterial vaginosis and other va**nal infections.
๐ฉทThe fourth category includes anaerobic bacteria, like ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ , ๐น๐๐๐๐ฆโ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐, and ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐. This group is associated with a higher risk of bacterial vaginosis, sexually transmitted infections, and preterm birth. When the balance shifts from ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ -dominated bacteria to anaerobic bacteria, the va**nal pH increases, disrupting the va**nal ecosystem.
๐ฉทThe fifth category is characterized by the dominance of ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐. Providing a link between ๐ฟ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ -dominated groups and the anaerobic bacteria. The role of this fifth category in va**nal health is not yet fully understood.
