Keratoconus:
A condition in which the clear tissue on the front of the eye (cornea) bulges outward.
With keratoconus, the clear, dome-shaped tissue that covers the eye (cornea) thins and bulges outward into a cone shape. Its cause is unknown.
Symptoms first appear during puberty or the late teens and include blurred vision and sensitivity to light and glare.
Vision can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses early on. Advanced cases may require a cornea transplant.

iStent
iStent is the smallest medical implants known to be implanted in the human body. iStent measures just 0.36 mm long and is made of titanium (C).

How does iStent work?
Implanted at the time of cataract surgery, or in a separate procedure, iStent is designed to create a bypass between the front part of the eye and its natural drainage pathway to increase the flow of fluid.

By creating a permanent bypass through the primary blockage site (trabecular meshwork), iStent is designed to –

* improve the eye’s natural fluid outflow to safely lower intraocular pressure, and
* work continuously to improve the natural flow of fluid in the eye.

Diabetic Retinopathy:
A complication of diabetes that affects the eyes.
Diabetic retinopathy is caused by damage to the blood vessels in the tissue at the back of the eye (retina). Poorly controlled blood sugar is a risk factor.
Early symptoms include floaters, blurriness, dark areas of vision and difficulty perceiving colours. Blindness can occur.
Mild cases may be treated with careful diabetes management. Advanced cases may require laser treatment or surgery.

Uveitis: (u-vee-I-tis)
An inflammation of the middle layer of the eye (uvea).
The most common type is an inflammation of the iris called iritis (anterior uveitis).
Symptoms include redness, pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision and dark floating spots in the field of vision.
A common treatment is eye drops that ease the inflammation. If uveitis is a result of an infection, antibiotics or antiviral medication may be prescribed.
