Human Rights Day – Every Child Deserves a Safe Beginning
Human Rights Day reminds us that every single child has the right to love, protection, and a safe place to call home.
Yet the reality is heartbreaking.
Globally, more than 150 million children have lost one or both parents, and millions more are abandoned each year due to poverty, illness, and circumstances beyond their control.
In South Africa alone, thousands of children are affected by abandonment and neglect every year.
At Tshwane Place of Safety, this is not just a statistic — it is our daily reality.
Right now, 4 out of the children in our home are affected by parents struggling with drug addiction.
These little lives, so innocent and full of potential, have already experienced trauma that no child should ever have to face.
Every child has a basic human right:
The right to a loving home
The right to safety and protection
The right to a healthy, clean environment
The right to a future filled with hope
But for many children, these rights are taken away before they even have a chance to understand them.
We stand in the gap for these children.
We hold them, feed them, comfort them, and remind them that they are not forgotten.
Because every child matters. Every child deserves more.
This Human Rights Day, we ask you to stand with us — to be part of restoring dignity, love, and hope to the most vulnerable.
Be the reason a child feels safe again.
