Today is Go Silent Day.

Today, we quiet our voices to amplify the voices that too often go unheard.

Every quote shared today comes directly from a nonspeaker — powerful words that remind the world that speech is not the measure of intelligence, worth, or voice.

We stand with our spellers. We honour their words. We challenge the world to listen differently.

Communication comes in many forms. All of them matter.

This Friday, we’re turning down the volume to turn up awareness.

Go Silent Day is about shifting the way the world listens — recognising that speech is not the only voice that matters. For one day, we invite your organisation to step into the world of nonspeakers: to feel the power of silence, to notice how communication happens beyond words, and to stand in solidarity with our community.

We’re challenging organisations, schools, and teams to join us by going silent on Friday.
💬 Wear your sticker.
🤐 Stay silent.
🫱🏽‍🫲🏼 Stand with nonspeakers.

Let’s build a world where every voice is valued — spoken or not.
Will your organisation take the challenge?

Go Silent Day is about shifting the way the world listens. It’s about looking beyond what is spoken and recognising the full, brilliant human being within.

💬 Thabo shares his truth:
"Even a broken clock is right twice a day. My intelligence is not measured by my ability to speak. I need people to look past the noises my body makes. It’s really hard to have the words but not the mouth."

Every day, nonspeakers navigate a world that often underestimates them — not because of their minds, but because of their bodies. Their brilliance, humour, and insight live in a space that too many never take the time to hear.

Communication is not limited to speech. Intelligence is not defined by sound. It’s time to listen differently. 💙👐

🔇 Go Silent Day is not about the absence of voice — it’s about changing how we listen.

💬 Phinees says it best:
"Speech is a relative term. I have some words but they mean nothing. I have so much more to say!"

Being nonspeaking does not mean being without ideas, opinions, or brilliance. It means the world needs to learn to listen beyond speech. 💙👐

Today we honour the voices that aren’t always heard out loud.

“Being nonspeaking is not the end of my world. I was able to find my voice. What gets to me is when people discredit my voice. Having to work hard to communicate is something many won't understand. Some will look at me and think weak, but I’m not. I am the opposite. Let’s see how strong you are when you can’t speak!” Tumelo Lebenya

Nonspeaking does not mean nonthinking. Behind every body is a mind full of ideas, humour, and brilliance waiting to be respected. Let’s listen differently, presume competence, and amplify communication in all its forms.

💬 “What do you wish people would understand about being nonspeaking?”

Too often, nonspeakers are judged by what their voices can’t do, instead of what their minds can do. Their words matter, even if they come through a letterboard or keyboard instead of speech.

✨ Today, we share a quote from Tholu, whose voice shines beyond spoken words.
This Go Silent Day, we’re amplifying the voices of nonspeakers — because communication is more than spoken words. 💙
