Uterine fibroids has different types and the biggest mistake that most of you make is to assume that fibroids are the same.

There are 4 types of fibroids:

1. INTRAMURAL FIBROID - Non cancerous muscular tumours that grow within the uterine wall and they cause heavy bleeding, pelvic pain and pressure.

2. SUBSEROSAL FIBROIDS- Benign tumours that grow on the outer surface of the uterus and causes pelvic pain and severe pressure on nearby organs like the bladder. Unlike intramural fibroid, it does not cause heavy bleeding.

3. SUBMUCOSAL FIBROIDS- Non cancerous growth developing in the inner layer of the uterus. Its major symptoms includes heavy bleeding, prolonged periods and INFERTILITY

4. PEDUNCULATED FIBROIDS- They grow on a thin stalk (peduncle) either inside or outside the uterus. Their major symptoms are sharp abdominal pain and severe pressure caused by the fact that the fibroid twists on the stalk.

Knowing the kind of fibroids that you have will help you manage your healing better.
