🌍 World Patient Safety Day 2025: Strengthening Patient Safety in South Africa
Today, on World Patient Safety Day, we recognise the importance of safe, high-quality care for every patient. This global initiative, established by the World Health Organization (WHO), calls on healthcare providers, organisations and communities to work together to reduce harm and improve patient outcomes.
Patient safety is a fundamental right, yet healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a significant challenge in South African healthcare facilities, contributing to preventable complications and longer recovery times. According to the WHO, up to 1 in 10 patients worldwide are harmed while receiving hospital care (WHO, 2021), emphasising the urgent need for strong safety practices locally.
At JPS Africa, patient safety guides everything we do. Through our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training programmes for clinicians and non-clinicians, we equip healthcare teams to deliver safe, dignified and effective medical male circumcision (MMC) services 💙:
Clinicians: Training aligns with WHO core standards, strengthening knowledge and skills to prevent HAIs and improve patient outcomes.
Non-clinical staff: Courses cover universal precautions, waste management and occupational safety, recognising that every team member plays a role in patient safety.
