The draft which outlines possession rules for cannabis users at home and people who wish to cultivate the plant, has been updated and submitted to parliament today (24 May).

With the national assembly approving these additions on 31 March, the bill is now being considered in a second round of public participation meetings.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) says it supports the legalisation of cannabis for private, commercial and medical use in South Africa.

High hopes: SA looks to dagga, h**p industry to create 130 000 jobs.
South Africa will seek to harness a multibillion-dollar dagga and h**p industry in a bid to create as many 130 000 jobs and lure foreign investment as it grapples with record unemployment.

Africa’s most industrialised nation plans to streamline the "regulatory processes so that the h**p and cannabis sector can thrive like it is in other countries such as Lesotho", President Cyril Ramaphosa said in his State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on Thursday.

SA will seek to harness a multibillion-dollar cannabis and h**p industry in a bid to create as many 130 000 jobs and lure foreign investment as it grapples with record unemployment.
