Signs Your Body Might Be Fighting an Infection
Your immune system works constantly to protect your body from bacteria, viruses, and other harmful pathogens. When your body detects an infection, it activates its natural defence mechanisms β and this often shows up through certain symptoms.
Here are some common signs your body may be responding to an infection:
Persistent Fatigue
Feeling unusually tired or lacking energy can occur when your body is working hard to fight off an infection. The immune response requires energy, which may leave you feeling more fatigued than usual.
Swollen Lymph Nodes
Lymph nodes help filter harmful bacteria and viruses from the body. When your immune system is active, lymph nodes in areas such as the neck, jaw, or underarms may become swollen or tender.
Sore Throat or Localised Pain
Inflammation caused by infection can lead to discomfort in specific areas of the body. A sore throat, ear pain, or sinus pressure may be signs that the body is responding to an infection.
Persistent Cough or Congestion
Respiratory infections often cause coughing, chest discomfort, nasal congestion, or difficulty breathing through the nose. These symptoms can develop during colds, flu, or other upper respiratory infections.
Fever or Elevated Temperature
A fever is one of the body's natural defence mechanisms. Raising body temperature helps the immune system respond more effectively to infections.
If symptoms persist, worsen, or are accompanied by severe discomfort, it may be important to seek medical advice.
