✨ What to expect from your 6 month old ✨

At this age, babies are becoming stronger, more curious, and much more interactive! Here are some exciting milestones you may notice:

πŸ‘Ά Gross motor skills
β€’ Sitting with support (hands forward for balance or supported at the hips)
β€’ Rolling both ways
β€’ Pushing up on straight arms during tummy time
β€’ Bringing feet to hands and exploring toes
β€’ Starting to bounce when held in standing

πŸ–οΈ Fine motor & reaching
β€’ Reaching purposefully for toys
β€’ Grasping objects and bringing them to the mouth
β€’ Transferring toys from one hand to the other
β€’ Beginning to rake at small objects

πŸ‘€ Visual skills
β€’ Tracking moving objects smoothly
β€’ Reaching accurately for what they see
β€’ Studying faces closely
β€’ Showing interest in mirrors and bright toys

🧠 Social & communication
β€’ Laughing and squealing
β€’ Responding to their name
β€’ Showing excitement when they see familiar people
β€’ Exploring with lots of babbling sounds

πŸ’› Remember: every baby develops at their own pace. If you’re unsure about your little one’s development, early support can make a big difference.

id you know that different types of movement can either alert or calm your nervous system? πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈβœ¨

Vestibular input (movement input) plays a powerful role in regulation.

πŸ”„ Fast, unpredictable, spinning movement β†’ alerting
🌊 Slow, rhythmic, linear movement β†’ calming
⬆️ Up-and-down movement β†’ can be organizing or alerting depending on intensity
πŸŒ€ Rotational movement β†’ highly stimulating (and needs to be monitored!)

Every child responds differently β€” it’s about finding the just right input for their nervous system πŸ’›

Stay tuned to learn how to use movement intentionally at home or in the classroom!

Like a πŸ₯€ Coke bottle that’s been shaken all day… sensory input builds up quietly. By the time the cap comes off at home 🏠, the fizz spills out πŸ’₯. This isn’t bad behavior β€” it’s the Coke bottle effect: overstimulation + deregulation finally finding release πŸ’‘β€οΈ.

✨ What to expect from your 3-month-old & how to support their development ✨

At 3 months, your baby is becoming more alert, curious, and interactive with the world around them. Here’s what you may notice and how you can encourage their development:

πŸ‘Ά Raising their head during tummy time – Your baby may lift their head to about 45Β° (or higher) while on their tummy. Encourage this with daily tummy time and engaging face-to-face interaction.

πŸ‘€ Tracking objects – They can follow moving objects or faces with their eyes. Use colourful toys, slow movements, and talk while they watch.

βœ‹ More exploratory hand use – Hands are opening more, moving toward objects, and often going to the mouth. Offer safe toys with different textures to explore.

🧸 Early self-soothing – Some babies may suck their hands or fingers to calm themselves.

😊 Social engagement – More smiling, cooing, and responding to familiar voices. Talk, sing, and respond to their sounds.

πŸ’ͺ Improved head and neck control – Better control when supported in sitting and during carrying.

πŸ”Š Responding to sounds – Turning toward voices and showing interest in different sounds.

Did you know? πŸ‘£

Toe curling in babies can be a subtle sign of overstimulation. When their little nervous systems are overwhelmed β€” by too much noise, light, or activity β€” their bodies might react in small ways, like clenching fists or curling toes.

✨ What to do:

β€’ Gently remove your baby from the stimulating environment
β€’ Offer calming input: soft music, dim lights, or skin-to-skin contact
β€’ Go outside
β€’ Watch for cues β€” every baby is different!

Tuning into these tiny signals helps build trust and supports your baby’s regulation from the very beginning πŸ’›
