Why is it important to have children’s eyes examined early?
It is to detect binocular vision problems, which affect how the two eyes work together during the critical stages of visual development.
Binocular vision problems may include strabismus (squints), double vision, or a significant difference in focal point between the two eyes. When these issues are not identified early, the brain may begin to favour one eye over the other, which can lead to the development of amblyopia (a lazy eye).
Early detection is key. The sooner these conditions are diagnosed, the easier and more effective it is to begin treatment, as a child’s visual system is still adaptable in the early years. Timely intervention supports healthy visual development, helps prevent long-term vision loss, and gives children the best possible chance for strong vision as they grow.
Schedule your child’s eye exam today and give them the gift of clear, healthy vision for life.
