👁️ What Is Retinal Detachment?
The retina is a thin layer of special tissue at the back of your eye that senses light and sends visual signals to your brain - it's what allows you to see.
Now imagine that this important layer starts to pull away from the back of the eye, like wallpaper peeling off a wall. That’s called a retinal detachment.
When the retina detaches, it can’t work properly - and that can cause serious vision problems or even permanent vision loss if it’s not treated quickly.
🚨 Warning Signs to Watch Out For:
💡 Flashes of light (especially in the side vision)
🌌 A sudden burst of floaters - those little dots, squiggles, or cobwebs in your vision
🕶️ A dark shadow or curtain moving across your sight
👁️ Blurry or distorted vision
These symptoms can happen suddenly and should never be ignored.
🩺 What Should You Do?
If you notice these signs, it’s important to get medical help right away - retinal detachment is an eye emergency. An Ophthamologist can often repair the retina with surgery, especially if it's caught early.
👍 The Good News:
Retinal detachment sounds scary, but with fast treatment, many people recover some or even most of their vision. So knowing the signs can make a big difference!
