Today at Deist & Associates was nothing short of inspiring! 🙌

We had the privilege of meeting Dr Larona Moalusi, a left below-elbow amputee following a motor vehicle accident in March 2025.

Dr Moalusi recently reached out to us with great interest in the i-Limb Ultra by Össur, one of the world’s most advanced myo-electric prosthetic hands. This remarkable device uses tiny electrical signals from your muscles to control individual finger movements, allowing for natural, precise, and life-changing function.

As part of the process, we performed myo-electric testing, which involves carefully identifying the optimal muscle zones where sensors can detect electrical activity generated by muscle movement. These signals are then used to operate the prosthetic hand.

The moment when an amputee sees the hand respond to even the smallest muscle contraction is always incredible, and today was no exception. Watching technology and human determination come together never gets old.

This is only the beginning of Dr Moalusi’s journey with the i-Limb Ultra.

At Deist & Associates we still believe in good, honest old school, back-to-basics prosthetic work — because sometimes, simple done right is exactly what’s needed.

De Waal Weideman has been an amputee for the past 44 years and is a Syme’s amputee (an amputation through the ankle joint where the heel pad is preserved to allow for weight-bearing).

His current prosthesis setup includes a built-up Pe Lite liner paired with a Pro Syme’s Foot from Otto Bock — a reliable, functional solution that has stood the test of time.

It’s always a wonderful experience working with long-standing patients who remind us why we do what we do.

Our Story

We specialise in the manufacturing of prostheses. We can accommodate your every prosthetic need ranging from very basic prosthesis to highly specialised prosthesis. We are a passionate team of dedicated professionals who love our work and see to our patients’ individual needs. Deist and Associates keep up-to-date with the latest technology, therefore we can bring our patients the latest in socket design, material, fabrication and componentry.

Whether you are an elderly patient who lives a less active life requiring a basic set-up; a young, active athlete sprinting on a Cheetah blade; or an individual requiring high tech, micro processed componentry - your needs are our priority.

New amputees are taken through a well-tested post-op program where they are mobilised between 14-21 days after an amputation.

Deist and Associates specialises in manufacturing and fitting a range of artificial limbs, orthotic braces and other prosthetic devices. Prosthetic limbs are custom-made for amputees by our technicians.
