In therapy, there is a lot of focus on the past and on primary people in our lives and their failures. The goal is not to blame them for our problems, but to acknowledge the pain that those relationships and experiences caused and to understand their impact. Yes, you are responsible for your choices and for your healing, but ignoring hurt from the past is like building a puzzle with half the pieces missing. Understanding yourself and your past in a meaningful way requires you to be honest with yourself so that deeper insights and understandingings will allow you to feel the grief, the rage, the pain, the loss... all so you can start to grow and be the self you want to be. Being hurt does not absolve you of responsibility, but it can bring some very valuable understandings of yourself and why you may do things you do and empower you change destructive patterns. That is your responsibility.

About me

I’m a registered Clinical Psychologist based in Pretoria East, Gauteng, offering psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, and couples. My passion lies in working through “issues of self”, which manifest as what is experienced as depression, anxiety, and various other psychological difficulties and hindrances to satisfaction with self, others, and the world. My special interests include personality disorders, deliberate self-harm, identity difficulties, adjustment, and relationship difficulties.

I offer individual psychotherapy to adults and adolescents, as well as couples’ and family therapy. My approach is broadly psychodynamic or insight-based, although in practice, my clients’ needs and personality styles determine how their process will unfold in the context of a supportive space and therapeutic relationship.
