Professor Joyce Shirinde’s career in public health blends science, mentorship, and a commitment to societal impact. Beginning as an Environmental Health Practitioner in Johannesburg, she witnessed firsthand how environmental and socioeconomic conditions influence health outcomes. Today, as head of the Division of Behaviour and Health Management Sciences at the University of Pretoria, Shirinde leads innovative research on climate change, air pollution, and community health while mentoring the next generation of leaders. Her work spans local communities and global collaborations, reflecting a deep belief that meaningful change starts in the classroom, extends to research, and reaches the communities she serves.
