Here’s why you may want to think twice about eating bacon (if you want to be healthy and your goals go beyond merely weight loss).

🐷🥓Pigs are scavengers, which means that they will eat almost anything-rotten food, faeces, urine, carcasses, and even cancerous growths.

🐷 🥓Their digestive systems are incapable of effectively removing toxins from their bodies. These toxins are then stored directly in the pig’s fat cells and organs.

🐷🥓Pigs also do not have sweat glands. Perspiration is a key method the body uses to for detoxification and the pig is not designed to perspire. When we consume pig meat we get all of these pathogenic microorganisms and environmental toxins into our own system.

🐷🥓Pork is NOT the other white meat. This is based upon the amount of myoglobin in the animals muscles. And the amount in pigs is not quite as high as beef products but isn’t nearly as low as the amount found in chicken and fish. Technically speaking, pork is more of a red meat.

🐷🥓Meat from a pig is touted as being the “cruelest meat you can eat”. (According to Rodale in the harsh and cruel ways pigs are treated).

🐷 🥓 Fitness gurus suggesting bacon is “good for us” typically only make mention of good fats, and it providing vitamins like B, Zinc, and selenium. Yet they fail to mention any of the above facts about the source being dirty and a health danger. (It’s no different thinking French fries are healthy because they’re made from a potato).😏

If you think including bacon in your life is worth the risk, and if fueling your body with the cleanest, most stellar nutrients to prevent disease isn’t a goal, then keep eating dirty. 😬

Tip for the Day
Avocados are extremely nutritious and delicious. They contain 14 minerals, 11 vitamins and a high percentage of protein for fruit. (Avocado is a fruit although we tend to eat it as a vegetable.)

Although avocados do contain fats, they are good fats which are easy to digest and contain essential fatty acids which help the hormonal system function and can actually help your metabolism to achieve your perfect weight despite the myth that avocados are 'fattening' and 'full of cholesterol".

Let's get one thing straight as you move forward this week, there is not one single fruit or vegetable that is able to manufacture cholesterol - this process can only be done by animals that have a liver. No plants have a liver. So don't be scared to eat avocados. Fats are needed by the body. Make sure its the right kind of fats contained in fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and cold pressed oils.

9 TOP TIPS TO EAT HEALTHY ON HOLIDAY

Tip 1:
Practice portion control
Eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. Savour your favourite holiday treats while eating small portions. Sit down, get comfortable, and enjoy. Listen to your body so that you know when enough is enough.

Tip 2:
Be realistic.
You don’t have to ‘kill’ yourself to lose weight during the holidays. Even if you are mid-way through your transformation plan, rather use this time to maintain your current condition. You can then focus on continuing to improve your physique after the holidays. In fact, you may even find that you lose some weight without even trying because you’re relaxed, and when you are relaxed your cortisol levels diminish (high cortisol levels promotes unwanted fat storage).

Tip 3:
Plan time for exercise.
A moderate daily increase in exercise can help partially offset that increased food intake synonymous with the holidays. Try 15-minute brisk walks or runs twice a day. If that sounds too hectic, try a light restorative yoga class, if you feel like your body needs a break, then ease up a little on your current exercise regimen, but don’t stop altogether. Rather change it up, or opt for gentle exercise instead.

Tip 4:
Don’t skip meals!
Before leaving for a party, eat a light snack, such as raw vegetables with hummus, a handful of biltong, or sliced apple with a natural nut butter to curb your appetite. That way you’ll be less tempted to over-indulge.

Tip 5:
Come prepared.
If you know that a holiday gathering won’t have any health options, simply bring your own delicious healthful meals. You may even find that you influence a few guests to enjoy a healthier meal too.

Tip 6:
Beware of beverages.
Alcohol can lessen inhibitions and induce overeating, while non-alcoholic beverages are often full of calories and sugar. Again, there in nothing wrong with drinking a little alcohol, just do so in moderation. Opt for white spirits paired with soda water and lemon and lemon to avoid excess sugars. Before drinking, eat a healthy, nutritious meal with protein, veg-based carbs and healthy fats to avoid late-night hunger after a night out.

Tip 7:
Avoid overeating.
If you slip up at one meal, go light on the next. It takes just 500 calories per day (or 3500 calories per week) above maintenance consumption levels to gain one kilo. Basically it’s impossible to gain weight from one piece of pie.

Tip 8:
Take the focus off food.
Rather turn baking time into non-edible projects like making wreaths, dough art decorations or a gingerbread house. Plan group activities with the family that aren’t all about food. Try serving a holiday meal to the community, playing games, or going for a walk around your neighbourhood. A holiday hike in nature with a healthy packed picnic lunch can be just as much fun than a day of sitting around and eating delicious food.

Tip 9
Cook healthily.
Preparing your favourite dishes using smart ingredients will help promote healthy holiday eating. Incorporate some of these simple cooking tips into traditional holiday recipes to make them healthier.

STOP THE NONSENSE! So someone loses weight following a diet that they will never be able to sustain; and following a workout program that takes up all their free time and exhausts them into the ground. Yet they post pictures on social media and everyone cheers. Look a little deeper folks - look for the peeps who have made a transformation and kept it for YEARS - not for a few months! Why are people so bloody blind to reality! - Scott Abel

Fitness Tip of the Day:

Use exercise to escape.

Whatever is going on in your personal life, use that 45-60 minutes each time you go to the gym to escape from reality, even if it's just for a short while. Put the social media away (yes no selfies!) and live in the moment.

Fitness Tip of the Day:

Develop new habits.

Develop new habits to make fitness fit into your lifestyle. For example, if you're going to the gym in the morning, get your clothes and gym bag ready the night before so you're ready for that early morning session. Soon, it will become part of your routine, similar to when you wake up in the morning and brush your teeth, etc.

The capital "S" directive is a great accompaniment to any diet strategy you may be following. It's a fantastic directive to put in place to make any diet strategy effective.

The directive is very simple :

No Snacks
No Second Helpings
No Spirits (alcohol)
No Sweets
No Sugars (artificial sweeteners are fine)
No Supersizing
No Splurges, except for one day of the week that starts with "S", or is a "Special" occasion. (This day is also when you could enjoy some alcohol).
Sleep is a priority
No Smoking!!!
