🌸 What to Expect When Getting a Mammogram 🌸

Your comfort and peace of mind matter to us! 💗

A mammogram is a quick, safe X-ray of the breast that helps detect early signs of breast cancer — often before symptoms appear.

🩺 Who Should Get a Mammogram:
• Women aged 40 and older should have a screening mammogram once a year.
• If you have a family history of breast cancer, speak to your doctor — you may need to start earlier.

💫 How to Prepare:
• Avoid deodorant, perfume, or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your appointment — these can show up on the images.
• Wear a two-piece outfit so it’s easy to remove your top.
• Try to schedule your mammogram for a time when your breasts aren’t tender (usually a week after your period).
• Bring any previous mammogram images if you’ve had them done elsewhere.

🩷 What to Expect:
• You’ll stand in front of the mammogram machine.
• Each breast is gently compressed for a few seconds to get clear images.
• The entire process usually takes 10–15 minutes.
• Results are reviewed by a radiologist who looks for any changes or concerns.

If your medical aid does not cover radiology from savings, you’re welcome to settle privately and submit the claim to your medical aid for reimbursement. 💼

Getting ready for a radiology exam? Here are a few simple tips to make your visit smooth and stress-free:

✅ Follow prep instructions: Some exams (like CT scans, MRIs, or ultrasounds) may require fasting or drinking contrast beforehand. Always follow the instructions given when you book your appointment.

👕 Dress comfortably: Wear loose-fitting clothes without metal (zippers, buttons, or jewelry), especially for MRI or X-rays.

📄 Bring your documents: Don’t forget your referral, ID, Medicare/private health card, and any previous imaging results if available.

⏰ Arrive early: Arriving 10–15 minutes before your appointment helps keep everything on schedule.

💬 Tell us if you’re pregnant or have allergies: This helps us choose the safest imaging method for you.
