Vandag is Wêreld Geestesgesondheidsdag. ‘n Dag waar ons kan fokus op geestesgesondheid. Stel vandag selfondersoek in en kyk na jou geestesgesondheid. Kom ons praat met mekaar oor ons geestesgesondheid en hoe ons dit kan verbeter.

Hier is ‘n paar wenke vir goeie alledaagse geestesgesondheid:

1. Bou ʼn ondersteuningsnetwerk waarmee jy kan praat.
2. Neem tyd om jouself te koester.
3. Maak ʼn lys van dinge waarvoor jy dankbaar is
4. Geniet die lewe en voeg ‘n bietjie pret by elke dag.
5. Skakel af en ontspan.
6. Kyk na jou fisiese gesondheid.

As jou dokter wil ons nie net jou liggaam gesond maak nie, ons wil na jou geestesgesondheid ook kyk. Skakel ons vir ‘n afspraak indien jy iemand nodig het om te luister.

Breast cancer, in particular, poses a significant threat to women’s health globally. It’s a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women.

Here are three things you can implement in your daily life to lower your risk of breast cancer.

1. Exercise
To protect yourself from breast cancer – and all
cancers – the recommended aim is 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise weekly, which breaks down to 30 minutes, five days a week.

2. Right Food
We recommend eating at least 2.5 cups of fruits and veggies daily, limiting processed and
red meats, and choosing whole grains to help reduce the risks of all types of cancer. Limit alcohol to no more than one drink per day

3. Breast Exams
Early detection saves lives. Add breast exams to your next doctor’s visits. We can also add mammograms and ultrasounds to your screening regimen. Do weekly Breast self-examination and get to know your breasts. Contact us if you notice any changes in your breast.

One in 27 women in South Africa is affected by breast cancer, according to CANSA.

The risk of many cancers, including breast cancer, can be reduced by living a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, the biggest risk for breast cancer is simply being a woman – and your risk increases if you have a family history of the disease or a mutation in the BRCA genes.

As we continue to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to prioritise your breast health. Breast health is a fundamental aspect of women’s overall well-being.
