Glaucoma is common… identify yourself with the first sign of it!

Symptoms usually are related to sudden increases in IOP (intraocular pressure), particularly with acute angle-closure glaucoma, and may include blurred vision, halos around lights, severe eye pain, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Africa's 1st Private Eye Hospital

Established in 1991, our dedicated 40-bed eye hospital with an ultra-modern 20-chair day ward and intensive care unit, is manned by specially trained ophthalmic nursing staff.

A modern theatre complex with six theatres is purpose designed and equipped with advanced, specialised surgical equipment.

We offer a complete range of eye care services including LASIK and PRK refractive surgery, eye exams, vision testing for glasses and contacts. All Laser Lasik, Cornea & Glaucoma, Laser Cataract Surgery, Brow lift services.

In addition to the hospital, our premises host the following for your convenience:

· Ophthalmic pharmacy

The pharmacy specializes in eye medication. We have three qualified, friendly pharmacists available to dispense your medication and counsel you on the use of your medication.

· Optometrist

Ferreira, Kennedy and Zwarts at the Pretoria Eye Institute offers you personal attention from experienced eye care professionals.

· Prosthetic / Art eyes

Individually matched artificial eyes and sclera shells are custom designed and created by registered Ocularists, for people who have lost an eye or suffer from genetic defect.

· Orthoptist

An Orthoptist, Kate Housley, is available to treat eye movement disorders, in co-operation with ophthalmologists.

· Low Vision Clinic

The Low Vision Pretoria Practice provides low vision services that includes a low vision functional examination, information regarding your vision, spectacles if necessary, adaptation methods and low vision optical, non-optical and electronic devices. Low vision patients can no longer be helped with ordinary optometric intervention.

We only examine patients with low vision related problems, making us the only pure low vision practice in Pretoria. LVP was established in 2013 and the owner, Annelize van Zyl has a Master’s Degree in Optometry with years of experience and a special interest in low vision.
