Coriander Pesto & Chutney Recipes

1. Always wash the coriander well a few times to remove all the sand. Keep the stems. Spin in a salad spinner and dry on a cloth before blending.

2. You can add more lemon, chilli, salt, olive oil to adjust the consistency and taste.

The pesto is excellent for expelling parasites.

Both these recipes have high polyphenol content which means that it has a gazillion health benefits. You can contact me for those specifics.

I love getting my protein from whole food sources. Here’s a mix that I make and use daily. I add superfood powders and spices to it for an extra kick.

HIGH PROTEIN SEED MIX

1/2 cup H**p Seeds
1/2 cup Pumpkin Seeds
1/4 cup Sunflower Seeds
1/4 cup flax seeds
4T chia seeds

Optional extras
3T cocoa powder
1T cinnamon powder
1T Lion’s mane powder
1T Ashwaganda powder
1tsp cardamom

Blend all the seeds separately. You may feel the heat from some of them especially the chia seeds.

Once cooled, mix them together in a bowl. Add the powders and use a whisk to mix well.

Store in a glass bottle in the fridge for three weeks.

Can be added to your oats, smoothies or to your water/milk of choice.

My journey with yoga started when I was in ‘limbo’ after coming back from working abroad. I started doing the short sessions on Zee TV and was surprised how great I felt after them. I mean, I thought that I knew everything about human health and wellbeing especially after spending years training to be a doctor.

That was the beginning of a very interesting journey where yoga has been my teacher, grounding me each day, so that I may remain humble and approach life with a curious mind and an open heart.

So if you haven’t tried yoga yet, then perhaps this is an invitation for you to explore something new in your life.

LOVE how this year the is so much more than yoga. There is a wide range of offerings from sound healing, tai chi, meditation and even rope flow.

Spring in the perfect time to get back on track and this festival may help you find your flow in life again. Held .

HAPPY MORNING DRINK

A morning ritual is something that sets me up for the rest of the day. It keeps me in the parasympathetic state for a longer time.

I haven’t been consistent with my ‘Happy Drink’ but it’s time I meet my body halfway!

RECIPE
1/4 cup dried coriander seeds
1/4 cup fenugreek seeds
1/4 cup fennel seeds
1/4 cup cumin seeds
Cinnamon sticks
2T cloves
Pinch of cardamom
Pinch of saffron
Optional extras : fresh ginger and lemon

Combine all the dry ingredients and store it
in a glass bottle. Use one tablespoon and boil in a pot of water. Add grated fresh ginger to the mixture. Once boiled, strain. Add saffron, cardamom and lemon to taste.

This drink has several health benefits from improving digestion, decreasing insulin levels/belly fat, decreases inflammation and most of all, improves concentration and mood.

It is a quick way to get some polyphenols into your diet so try it and let me know how you feel on it.

What is Self-Care?

The World Health Organization ( 1998) defines it as the following:

"Self-Care is what people do for themselves to establish and maintain health, and to prevent and deal with illness. It is a broad concept encompassing hygiene (general and personal), nutrition (type and quality of food eaten), lifestyle (sporting activities, leisure etc), environmental factors (living conditions, social habits, etc.) socio-economic factors (income level, cultural beliefs, etc.) and self-medication.’"

This may be daunting to address it all at once. So what can you do?

Start with small, manageable steps are key.

Step 1: Choose one of the seven pillars. It may be a pillar that you are familiar with or already working on. Recognizing what you are already doing well (and building on this) is just as important as what we want or need to change.

Step 2: What is one different self-care pillar you commit to strengthening? How will you do this? (remember: small steps :)) And when will you begin? This can align with thinking about small habits that you have.

Step 3: Integrate self-care into daily life - incorporate the 7 pillars, 7 days a week.
