Sciatica is a condition where pain travels along the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body. The sciatic nerve starts in the lower back, runs through the hips and buttocks, and travels down each leg.
What causes sciatica?
Sciatica happens when the sciatic nerve is irritated, inflamed, or compressed. Common causes include:
💠A herniated or bulging disc
💠Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)
💠Degenerative disc disease
💠Muscle tightness or spasm (especially the piriformis muscle)
💠Injury or prolonged poor posture
