Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179)
Hildegard of Bingen was a German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, and visionary, renowned for her contributions to theology, medicine, and music. Born in 1098, she entered a convent at a young age and later became abbess of the convent of Rupertsberg. Hildegard was known for her mystical visions, which she documented in works such as Scivias and Liber Divinorum Operum. Her musical compositions, including Symphonia Armoniae Celestium Revelationum, are still performed today. She is considered one of the first major female composers and a significant figure in medieval philosophy and science. Hildegard was canonized as a saint in 2012 and declared a Doctor of the Church for her theological writings and influence.
