24 – 30 April 2026 is African Vaccination Week. This year’s theme is “For every generation, vaccines work”.
As we mark African Vaccination Week, we are reminded that immunisation is not just a personal choice but a public health responsibility.
Every vaccine given is more than an injection; it is a step towards a healthier future.
Across Africa, immunisation helps children grow up stronger, attend school regularly, and avoid diseases that can limit their potential. From measles and polio to Human papillomavirus (HPV) and influenza, vaccines strengthen both individual immunity and community protection.
Vaccines remain one of the most useful tools in modern healthcare, protecting millions of lives every year and preventing the spread of life-threatening diseases. Reaching herd immunity eradicates the threat of these diseases.
Immunisation saves lives, reduces outbreaks, and gives every child the chance to grow, learn, and thrive, especially in poverty-stricken areas throughout the African continent.
You can get vaccinated at a local clinic, pharmacy, or by your doctor. Many pharmacies provide immunisation services.
Check with your local pharmacy for screening and immunisation services they offer.
