In this video Dr Lawson tells us about the most common symptom women with uterine fibroids present with: heavy periods.

Fibroids are diagnosed through a variety of tests. Some fibroids masses may be deductible from a pelvic exam by a doctor. Usually, the doctor will require further testing to confirm the presence of fibroids. An ultrasound or MRI may be required to see the fibroid and extent of it.

If you are experiencing symptoms such as heavy periods, please consult a doctor to determine if fibroids could be the reason.

Dr Andrew Lawson specialises in fibroid treatment using a technique called uterine fibroid embolization.

Dr. Lawson qualified as a doctor at the University of the Witwatersrand and trained in Radiology at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.

He received expert training in uterine fibroid embolisation while at the Royal Surrey Hospital in England, and spent a further year in Australia gaining experience in diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

While there are foods that are rumoured to cause fibroids, there is certainly no link that we know of between diet and fibroids.
