The InBody scan is a type of body composition analysis that uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to measure various metrics about your body. It's commonly used in gyms, medical offices, and wellness centers to provide a detailed snapshot of your health and fitness status.
🔍 What the InBody scan measures:
1. Body Fat Percentage (BFP) – How much of your body is fat.
2. Lean Body Mass – The weight of everything in your body excluding fat, like muscles, bones, and organs.
3. Skeletal Muscle Mass (SMM) – The amount of muscle attached to your bones that you can grow through training.
4. Total Body Water – Divided into intracellular and extracellular water; helps assess hydration and inflammation.
5. Visceral Fat Level – The fat stored around your internal organs; high levels are linked to greater health risks.
6. Segmental Analysis – Muscle and fat breakdown by body part (arms, legs, trunk), identifying imbalances.
7. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) – The number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain vital functions.
🧪 How it works:
• You stand on the InBody scale barefoot and hold hand electrodes.
• A low-level electrical current is sent through the body.
• The device measures how easily the current travels through different tissues (muscle, fat, water conduct electricity differently).
⏱️ Duration:
• It takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute for the scan and 30-45min result discussion
🧘♂️ Preparation tips:
• Avoid eating, drinking, or exercising 2–3 hours before the test.
• Try to test under the same conditions each time for consistent results.
• Wear light-weight clothes
✅ Why people use it:
• Tracking muscle gain or fat loss progress
• Assessing overall health
• Tailoring diet and fitness plans to align with your goal
• Monitoring hydration or inflammation
• Understanding your weight - Weight alone is a poor indicator of health. The InBody divides your weight into water, muscle and fat.
✅ Cost:
• R350 for the first consultation and R250 for every follow up.
