Dr Tielman Johannes Roos Scholtz (1887 - 1932)
If I recall correctly, I was a registrar in General Surgery, when I was told this story by Dr "Lang Loubie" (J Loubser), a well loved and highly respected part-time Consultant, while scrubbing for a surgical procedure at the Pretoria Academic Hospital. The story resembled an urban legend, but Dr Loubie was better known for his love of philosophy, rather than story telling.
Twenty five years later, I came across an obituary contianed in the S.A.Medical Journal of 26 November 1932 . The following is based on the information obtained from that obituary. Coincidence? Dr Loubie might have ascribed it to "synchronicity"
