Morne van As achieved something in France this past weekend that very few local athletes have done before: ๐ฌ๐ž๐ญ ๐š ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ง ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ.

The Tuks athlete improved the national heptathlon record at an indoor event, scoring 5379 points, winning all seven events.

This was the first time he had competed indoors. What is also remarkable is that the 28-year-old Van As only started competing in the heptathlon and decathlon four years ago.

Improving movement efficiency and staying injury-free are critical if you want to unlock your peak performance.
Meet Charnรฉ du Plessis (Swart) โ€” a 5th-year medical student at the University of Pretoria and an elite 800m middle-distance athlete. Recently, she clocked an impressive 1:58.98, earning automatic qualification for the World Athletics Championships in September 2025.
So, what contributed to Charnรฉโ€™s remarkable progress?
It wasnโ€™t just about running more or training harder โ€” it was about training smarter and ensuring efficient movement patterns.
At We Manage Movement, we regularly assessed Charnรฉ using The Performance Matrix (TPM) โ€” a cutting-edge screening system designed to identify impairments and asymmetries that increase the risk of injury during both low- and high-threshold activities.
Through TPM, we identified weak links that were limiting her performance and increasing her injury risk, such as:
โ€ข Lateral rotation control of the lower leg
โ€ข Medial rotation at the hip
โ€ข Excessive foot pronation
Armed with these insights, we tailored a personalized retraining program to address her specific needs. This included:
โ€ข Targeted movement control drills to improve coordination and stability
โ€ข Strength training to optimize movement under high loads and fatigue
This wasnโ€™t just about getting stronger โ€” it was about channelling force effectively and at the right time. Thatโ€™s the power of movement science: Train smarter โ†’ Perform better.
