These exercises are aimed at strengthening the tongue muscles, improving coordination and movement, and supporting better feeding and oral function.
✨Tongue-to-roof-of-mouth exercise
• While baby is asleep, gently pull the lower jaw down to see where the tongue is sitting.
• Slowly drag the chin downward until you see the tongue drop away from the palate.
• Then gently push the jaw back up to help the lips seal.
• Repeat a few times.
✨Suck exercise
• Rub the palate gently from side to side to stimulate sucking.
• Rub along the gums (like softly brushing teeth) to wake up the mouth muscles.
• Press down on the tongue for a few seconds to challenge and strengthen it.
✨Suck Challenge Exercise
• Let baby suck on your finger.
• Place your thumb pad on their chin.
• Gently lower the chin until baby loses the suck.
• Then release the jaw and let them latch and suck again.
• Repeat a few times.
✨Tongue “Tug-of-War” Exercise
• Let baby suck on your finger.
• Gently pull your finger back just a little.
• Baby will instinctively pull their tongue forward to keep the suck.
• Repeat a few times.
