Did you know? Retinol can sometimes make the surface of your eyes feel dry.

Tip: If your eyes feel dry after using a cream with retinol, apply a lubricating eye drop along with your eye cream to keep them comfortable.

Keratoconus is an eye condition where the cornea (the clear front surface of your eye) thins and gradually bulges outward into a cone shape. This irregular shape makes it harder for the eye to focus, leading to blurry or distorted vision.

As we age, our eyes go through changes β€” some normal, some that need attention.
Here are a few conditions to look out for:

Cataracts – Cloudy vision that develops slowly over time
Glaucoma – Increased eye pressure that can damage the optic nerve
Dry Eye Syndrome – Often caused by screen time, age, or environment
Presbyopia – Difficulty focusing on near objects (hello, reading glasses!)
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) – Affects central vision

Regular eye exams help detect these early. Don’t wait until symptoms worsen β€” prevention is key to protecting your sight.

The 28th of September marked World Retina Day β€” a day dedicated to celebrating the most delicate tissue in the eye. The retina is a literal extension of the brain and is responsible for the actual β€œseeing” that happens in the eye. Truly majestic!

Eye appointments are an opportunity to protect your vision, detect early signs of disease, and ensure your eyes stay healthy for the long term. To help you get the most out of your visit, here are five things every patient should know:

1. Bring Your Current Glasses or Contact Lenses
2. Share Your Medical History
3. Expect Dilation (Sometimes)
4. Write Down Your Questions
5. Eye Exams Aren’t Just for Glasses

Being prepared for your eye appointment helps you and your doctor work together for the best outcomes. A little preparation can make a big difference in protecting your sight for years to come.

It’s spring time and although the beautiful warm weather and pretty blossoming plants are wonderful, they do come with the potential for itchy eyes.

Seasonal allergic Conjunctivitis is the most common type of allergy that affects the eyes. This type of conjunctivitis occurs more commonly in the spring when grass, tree, flower, and ragweed pollens are abundant. Lids may be swollen and eyes red and itchy.

Treatment often includes allergy eye drops, applying cool compresses to the eyes, taking antihistamines and decreasing contact lens wear. However, if symptoms persist for an extended period of time after treatment, you should have your eyes examined by your ophthalmologist, as there could be a more serious eye problem.

It’s real. And more common than you think.
Whether you're working, scrolling, or streaming, prolonged screen time can take a toll on your eyes.

Symptoms include:
- Dry, irritated eyes
- Headaches
- Blurred or fluctuating vision
- Difficulty focusing

One simple way to protect your eyes is the 20-20-20 rule:
Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (6 metres) away for 20 seconds. This small habit can help relax your eye muscles and reduce digital eye strain.

Bonus tips:
- Blink often
- Adjust screen brightness
- Use blue light filters if needed
- Maintain a healthy distance from your screen

Your eyes work hard for you, give them the break they deserve.
