My Story
Having suffered with backache for most of my teenage and early adult life, I found myself unable to walk one day in my late 30s as a result of severe back spasms. I was told I would need spinal surgery as my L4 / L5 disc had herniated. Having grown up in a health conscious family where medication and surgery were an absolute last resort I decided to try physiotherapy first and after many months of patient treatment, my back did improve. However I knew I had to be careful in my movement and that that I would just need to learn to manage my recurring back spasms. With heat, voltarin injections, a supporting back brace and massage, the pain would eventually ease off and become bearable again. I assumed this was just how it would be for the rest of my life.
A good friend then introduced me to Body Stress Release about 15 years ago. Gradually I could feel my body healing from the inside out. I realised something profound had shifted and I was curious to understand the process. Again my friend stepped in to change my life by suggesting that I study BSR. I took a huge leap of faith, giving up a teaching career, leaving two young daughters and my husband behind in Johannesburg, and did the course in 2005.
3 months after I qualified we had a terrible car accident on our way down to a holiday in the Eastern Cape. I fractured 3 vertebra, and again resisted surgery, believing that my body could heal itself through BSR. That was 13 years ago and today I remain pain free, despite being on my feet all day for my BSR practice.
BSR has truly changed my life.
