Mental coaching in sports is crucial for helping athletes develop resilience, focus, and confidence.

It helps them manage stress, overcome setbacks, and perform optimally under pressure.

Big match temperament, or the ability to perform well in high-pressure situations, is often cultivated through mental coaching techniques such as visualization, goal-setting, and mindfulness training.

It's not just about physical skill, but also about mental strength and preparation.

Possible Causes of Sciatica Hip Pain!

1. Herniated Disc:
- The most common cause of sciatica hip pain, herniated discs in the lumbar spine put pressure on the nerve, leading to inflammation and irritation.

2. Degenerative Joint Disease:
- This condition results in the formation of bony spurs on facet joints, narrowing the intervertebral area and causing disc wear-down, ultimately compressing the nerve.

3. Trauma:
- Injuries like sports-related incidents or falls can exert pressure on peripheral nerves, manifesting symptoms along the nerve’s distribution.

4. Excessive Sitting:
- Prolonged sitting tightens the piriformis muscle, compressing the sciatic nerve underneath, especially common in activities like rowing or biking for extended periods.

5. Tight Pants:
- Wearing tight pants, particularly with a wallet in the back pocket, can cut off circulation, potentially leading to sciatica hip pain. While tight jeans can be worn briefly, it’s essential to stay active.

6. Excess Weight:
- Being overweight contributes to chronic hip and back pain, including sciatica, with research showing a higher prevalence among overweight individuals and pregnant women due to heavier uteruses and poor posture.

7. High Heels:
- High heels shift body weight forward, forcing unnatural hip flexion to maintain balance, increasing lower back stress and hamstring strain, exacerbating sciatica symptoms.

What Does Motion is Lotion Mean?

The body is designed to move as movement improves body functions, promoting physical and mental health.

The more you move, the more lubrication moves through your joints.

According to nursechrisp.com,“Maintaining the motion of your joints can improve your strength, mobility and flexibility. Regularly moving your joints will result in decreased pain”.

Many times sitting still is worse for your body than activity.

Activities that keep you stretching and moving are important for maintaining flexibility and strength.

It’s kind of like keeping your joints oiled. Walking has a lot of benefits!

Here are a few:

A Calmer Mind
Back Pain Relief
Sturdier Bones and Joints
Toned Muscles
Improved Digestion
Benefits For the Pancreas
Increased Lung Volume
Prevention of Heart Disease
Brain Boosting Effect

When you walk, your brain produces endorphins, which are mood-boosting!

It’s good for your body to move every day and to participate in some kind of exercise whether it’s walking, using a piece of cardio equipment or lifting weights.

Here are some other ideas for activities and movement:

Stretch
Do counter pushups
Invent a daily arm routine
Dance around the house
Play with the dogs
Be creative! There are always ways to move your body!

Remember…before you start any type of activity or exercise program, it’s best to check in with your therapist! Just send us a Whatsapp or schedule an online session!

What do you do to keep your body moving?

Why we need Balance & Proprioception training ✅

Proprioception is the body’s ability to perceive its own position in space. For example, proprioception enables a person to close their eyes and touch their nose with their index finger.

Proprioception is necessary for precise and fluid movements, making it essential to athletes and non-athletes alike.

How Can Proprioception Be Impaired?

An injury, such as a torn ACL or a strained Achilles tendon, damages the soft tissue where the proprioceptors are located. Damaged tissues do not function normally and thereby resulting in a loss of proprioception. This loss of proprioception can lead to:

• The recurrence/chronicity of an acute injury
• Joint damage over time, such as tendinopathy and arthritis

With better proprioception, you can perform the moves with more power and strength, because you won't waste energy on unnecessary movements caused by being out of position. You will also have a smaller chance of injury.

If you've suffered a sport injury and need assistance in regaining your strength, find a Biokineticist near you.
