From swings to sensory play, handwriting to heavy work… we’ve been busy this year!

As 2025 starts winding down, we’re so proud of the hard work, big feelings, brave tries, and beautiful growth we’ve seen in our little learners. 💛

Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to in OT!

🙌TIP TUESDAY 🙌

🌟 Isolated Finger Movement – Small Muscles, Big Impact! 🌟

In OT, we often focus on the little things — because little things lead to big skills! 💪

Today, our activity focused on isolated finger movement — helping little ones learn to move fingers independently rather than as one unit. This may look simple, but it’s a crucial step in developing fine motor control, coordination, and hand strength needed for everyday tasks like:

✏️ Holding a pencil
🧤 Getting dressed (buttons and zips!)
🧩 Building puzzles
🖱️ Using scissors or technology

💡 Activity Steps:

1. Trace your child’s hands on a piece of paper.

2. Roll small playdough balls together.

3. Encourage your child to place one ball at each finger along the hand outline — using only their fingertips!

4. Squeeze each ball flat starting with the thumb and moving to the pinky (left and right). Watch those tiny muscles work hard!

5. Now use each finger individually and "kick" away each ball. One at a time. (Refer to our video). Try this a few times until those finger are nice and warmed up.

6. Enjoy!!!

This fun, sensory-rich activity not only supports fine motor precision, but also builds concentration and bilateral coordination (using both hands together).

🎥 Check out the videos (in the comments) to see those busy little fingers in action — working, learning, and growing through play! 🌈

🌈 Activity of the Week 🌈

In OT we love to keep things fun — but behind all that fun, there’s always a purpose!
This simple activity with Checkers Stikeez can target so many developmental skills while keeping your little one entertained.

💡 What you’ll need:

A few Stikeez (or any small suction toys)

A smooth, vertical surface like a shower door, window, or bathroom tiles

Some foamy soap (we used Fozzi’s foam)

A spray bottle filled with water

🧩How to play:

Stick the Stikeez to your chosen surface.

Cover them in foamy soap.

Use the spray bottle to “clean” them off.

Encourage your child to pull the Stikeez loose using their thumb and index finger — this strengthens fine motor muscles and supports a good pencil grasp.

💪 This fun, hands-on activity helps to:

Strengthen hand and finger muscles (great for fine motor skills)

Improve bilateral coordination

Encourage sensory play and exploration

Build focus and endurance for fine motor work

Promote shoulder stability by working on a vertical surface, which is an important foundation for fine motor control

You can even try it during bath time for extra splashing fun! 🛁

✨ Play is the child’s work — and through play, we build skills for life.
