ℹ THREE SECONDS TO CONQUER ANY FEAR

If you think about it, there's always something holding us back because it's scary.

Because it's never been done.

Because it's uncharted territory.

Because we are venturing into the unknown.

GIVE YOURSELF 3 SECONDS TO DECIDE!

Get this...

The thing that we want is never within our comfort zone.

And if the thing that you really want right now is outside of your comfort zone, ask yourself...

By doing this or doing that, although it's scary and uncomfortable…

Will it make me a better, wiser person? Will it allow me to grow?

That's when you tell yourself 'let's do it anyway' because it's easy to stand in your own way.

It's easy when you want to do something but you over-analyze, rationalize and ponder on its pros and cons.

The mind is designed to keep us safe.

It will keep us in this safety zone and it will help us figure out all the different reasons why XYZ won't work out.

That's how the mind works.

But at the end of the day, the thing that you ultimately want is outside of your comfort zone.

You now have THREE SECONDS TO DECIDE then say the words, "Let's do it anyway."

Tag 2 people that need to see this.

ℹ️ WHAT COULD YOU ACHIEVE TODAY

One of the best gifts you can give yourself is getting out of your own way. A lot of the things you have not done are simply because you got in your own way 👣👣 By overthinking, overanalysing, aiming for phantom perfection, instead of steadily aiming for progress 🎯

Let us start with a few defintions

⚠TIRED : in need of sleep, or rest. Weary

⚠FATIGUE: extreme tiredness resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness

⚠MALAISE: A general feeling of discomfort, illness, or unease whose exact cause is difficult to identify.

☣Surely you can identify with feeling this way at some point or another in your life. In this world where we pulled in many different directions by work, parenting, family affairs, social lives etc. Self care usually goes to the bottom of the priority box. So what causes that physical feeling of fatigue?☣

🔹METABOLIC EFFECTS

1. Diabetes: both with high and low sugars
2. Disorders of ATP generation

🔹MENTAL HEALTH STATUS

1. Stress: which may lead to poor sleeping habits (insomnia or even hypersomnolensce/over -sleeping)
2. Anxiety disorders: Excessive worrying associated with anxiety also leads to poor sleep hygeine.
3. Depression

🔹MEDICAL CONDITIONS
1. Sleep apnoea ( smokers and overweight people at high risk although it does happen in other people too)
2. Medications such as antihistamines(used for allergies) and cough medicines.
3. Anaemia : be more weary if you are a female with heavy me**es and always feeling tired.
4. Chronic pain syndromes
5. Hypothyroidism

So what's the fuss about vitamin drips...
Well a lot of IV drip bars exist, for the sole purpose of energizing you through drips, but IV Nutrient Therapy is a little different and here is why:
The role of your small intestine is to absorb the nutrients from the food we eat into our bloodstream, however, a lot of the foods we eat are not easily absorbed into our systems due to what we call Malabsorption syndromes.
These can be caused by:
• Intestinal damage arising from inflammation, infections or trauma
• Excessive and prolonged use of antibiotics
• Lactase deficiency (commonly referred to as lactose intolerance)
• Parasitic infections
• Certain drugs that injure the stomach lining such as tetracyclines (antibiotics), colchicine (gout medication) and cholestyramine( cholesterol medication)
• Diseases of the gall bladder, liver or pancreas
• Other conditions such as celiac disease, Crohn's disease, chronic pancreatitis, and cystic fibrosis.
So what IV Nutrient Therapy aims to do is to provide you with the necessary nutrients in a form your body will immediately absorb into your bloodstream, bypassing the intestines.
What are the most common nutrient IV additives and their indications?
• Vitamins
• Minerals
• Antioxidant boosters
• Custom rehydration
So who needs IV Nutrient Therapy?
Anyone suffering from any of the below-listed conditions can benefit.
• Patients who are post chemotherapy.
• Patients who need immune boost/support.
• Stress
• Muscular degeneration, hypertension, and other chronic diseases.
• Muscular tension usually experienced by athletes
Book your consultation today, so we can work you up and see how we can help you to become more vital.

How to tell the difference between flu and the common cold...

These two tend to have the same symptoms which makes it difficult to then tell them apart.

Generally speaking flu is worse than the cold and the symptoms are more intense.

Symptoms flu cold
* Onset of symptoms Abrupt Gradual
* Fever, chills Common Rare
* Cough Common Slight
* Sore throat Sometimes Common
* Runny/stuffy nose Occasional Common
* Muscle or body aches Common Rare
* Headaches Common Rare
* Fatigue Common Rare

What are the complications

* Pneumonia,
* bronchitis
* sinus infections
* ear infections.

Those at high risk for developing flu should ideally be vaccinated before the flu season starts

What happens if a high risk patient gets flu like symptons?
1. see a doctor. Although there is no cure for flu, drugs such as tamiflu can lessen the severity and shorten the duration of the flu, thus reducing the likelihood of complications. These drugs are most effective if taken within 48 hours of the start of symptoms.
Who is at risk?
* Children younger than 5 years
* Adults older than 65 years
* Pregnant women
* People with chronic medical conditions
Self care for flu
* Get plent of bed rest
* Drink plenty of fluids
* Avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol (have water, juice, soup)
*
Who should get a flu shot?

Anyone older than 6 months, unless you have an allergy to eggs or have had an allergic reaction to the flu vaccine in the past.

👩‍🔬 The inability to achieve or maintain an er****on 🤷‍♂️ sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. This problem can cause significant distress for an individual and for couples. Welcome to our Men’s Health Fridays post. 📅 Today we’re looking at erectile dysfunction, what causes it, and if there is treatment for it. 🧘‍♂️
👩‍🔬 WHAT IS ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION?
It’s the inability to achieve or maintain an er****on sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance.
👩‍🔬 WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?

🎯 Psychological- stress related (especially in younger men) : Tension and anxiety may arise from poor communication with the sexual partner or a difference in sexual preferences. The sexual difficulties may also be linked to these factors:
➡️ Depression
➡️ Fatigue
➡️ Stress
➡️ Feelings of inadequacy
➡️ Personal sexual fears
➡️ Rejection by parents or peers
➡️ Sexual abuse in childhood

🎯 Physical factors (mainly in older men) because er****ons primarily involve the blood vessels. It is not surprising that the most common causes in older men are conditions that block blood flow to the p***s, such as atherosclerosis or diabetes.
🎯 Another vascular cause may be a faulty vein, which lets blood drain too quickly from the p***s. Other physical disorders, as well as hormonal imbalances and certain operations, may also result in erectile dysfunction.
🎯 Certain medications that affect the central nervous system may also be problematic i.e sleeping tablets, antihistamines (drugs like allergex), antidepressants, drugs that treat high blood pressure and cancer.
🎯 Alcohol and illicit drugs like ma*****na may also be a cause.
👩‍🔬 Management will obviously depend on your individual underlying cause, there is no one glove fits all for management.

👩‍🔬 Please consult a doctor if you have been experiencing the symptoms, and a treatment option most suitable for you can be applied.

🤔 Does your gut and digestive system actually keep you young? 💃🕺 What if there was a way to slow down ageing ⏰ Welcome to our Geriatric Thursdays post. 📅 Today we’re looking at what your gut has to do with ageing 🧘🏼‍♀️

👩‍🔬 The gastrointestinal tract (digestive tract, gut) is an organ system within humans and other animals which takes in food, digests it to extract and absorb energy and nutrients and expels the remaining waste as feaces.
✅ Although we play host to bacteria all over our body, the vast majority live in our digestive tract where they—in exchange for food and a place to live—provide a variety of life-supporting (and anti-aging) functions for our body
✅ As we continue to age, our gut bacterial colonies remain relatively stable, with a diverse mix of organisms best suited to each stage of life. By about age 50 though, they are meant to shift back towards the mix of our first couple of years of life, rich in anti-aging Bifidobacteria.
👩‍🔬 SO, WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
🎯 After a half-century of exposure to the many things that wipe out the good bacteria in our guts—like antibiotics in food and in medicines, excessive hygiene habits, antibacterial cleaners, processed foods, stress, sedentary and indoor living, and environmental toxins and chemicals—our gut bacteria can become depleted, meaning that there aren’t enough of the good guys to keep us healthy and youthful.
🎯 In fact, in an ideal colony of bacteria, 85% of the bacteria are friendly microbes (called probiotics) working hard on our behalf. Unfortunately, this percentage can decline due to various lifestyle factors as we age, and the bad guys can start to gain a foothold, allowing many aspects of the aging process to accelerate and often leaving us feeling tired and worn out beyond our years.
🎯 The good news is that protecting and nourishing your probiotic colonies by adopting a gut-healthy life can keep you feeling young and vibrant for all the years to come. A balanced gut microbiome teeming with probiotics is essential for healthy aging.
👩‍🔬 HERE’S HOW THE GOOD GUY MICROBES CAN KEEP YOU FEELING IN YOUR PRIME:

🔰 1. Protect brain cell health.
🔰 2. Enhance memory and cognitive function.
🔰 3. Regulate immune health.
🔰 4. Assist with detoxification.
🔰 5. Act as antioxidants.
🔰 6. Relieve temporary inflammation and support bone health.
🔰 7. Give you energy.
🔰 8. Promote beautiful skin.
👩‍🔬 AGING WELL WITH BENEFICIAL BACTERIA
🎯 We now know that healthy aging begins in our digestive tract with the billions of microbes that call our gut home. So, how do we cultivate a healthy microbiome as we age?
🔰 1. Take a high-quality daily probiotic supplement.
🔰 2. Avoid common probiotic depleters like sugary, processed foods, antibiotics in food and in medication (unless absolutely necessary), and antibacterial cleaners. Whenever possible, opt for whole, organic foods and natural cleansers that won’t wipe out friendly microbes.
🔰 3. Focus on feeding your probiotics. Once you have replenished the good bacteria in your gut, you want to give them what they need to thrive. Prebiotics are indigestible fibers that you can’t digest, but your mighty microbes love to eat! Bananas, onions, asparagus, and Jerusalem artichoke are great prebiotic sources.
🔰 4. Reduce stress and stay active. Stress can wreak havoc on the good guy microbes in your gut, so do your best to maintain a sense of calm and ease.

🧘‍♀️ Understanding your menstrual cycle better 🧐 A lesson for both moms and dads with a daughter 🧘‍♀️ Welcome to our Women's Health Wednesdays post 📅 dedicated to wonderful women and their health 🤸‍♀️

👩‍🔬 WHAT IS A MENSTRUAL CYCLE AND WHAT IS MENSTRUATION?
🎯 Menstruation is getting your period. About once a month, females who have gone through puberty will experience menstrual bleeding.
🎯 This happens because the lining of the uterus has prepared itself for a possible pregnancy by becoming thicker and richer in blood vessels.
🎯 If pregnancy does not occur, this thickened lining is shed, accompanied by bleeding which typically lasts for 3-8 days.
🎯 For most women, menstruation happens in a fairly regular, predictable pattern. The length of time from the first day of one period to the first day of the next period normally ranges from 21-35 days.
👩‍🔬 THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE HAS THREE PHASES.
📍 FOLLICULAR PHASE (DAYS 1-14)
✅ This phase of the menstrual cycle occurs from approximately day 1-14. Day 1 is the first day of bright red bleeding, and the end of this phase is marked by ovulation.

📍 OVULATORY PHASE (DAY 14)
✅ The release of the mature egg happens on about day 14. After release, the egg enters the fallopian tube where fertilization may take place if s***m is present. If the egg is not fertilized, it disintegrates after about 24 hours.

📍 LUTEAL PHASE (DAYS 14-28)
✅ After the release of the egg, levels of hormones decrease. Then progesterone is produced. If fertilization has occurred, progesterone will continue to be produced, which prevents the lining of your womb from being shed.
✅If fertilization has not occurred, progesterone levels will drop and the lining of the womb will be signaled to begin shedding. Resulting once again in bleeding i.e. your period.

✅ There is a range of normal bleeding – some women have short, light periods and others have longer, heavier periods. Your period may also change over time.
👩‍🔬 SO WHAT IS CONSIDERED A NORMAL PERIOD?
🎯 Your period lasts for 3-8 days
🎯 Your period comes again every 21-35 days (measured from the first day of one period to the first day of the next)
🎯 The total blood loss over the course of the period is around 2-3 tablespoons but secretions of other fluids can make it seem more

👩‍🔬 WHAT ABOUT A FIRST PERIOD/MENARCHE?
🎯 Most girls get their first period somewhere between the ages of 10 and 14, with an average of just over 12 years old. It’s hard to tell when your first period will arrive. It usually happens about two years after the first signs of puberty (usually breast development), and about a year after you begin growing p***c hair. You will also notice white or yellowish vaginal discharge in the few months leading up to your period.
👩‍🔬 Over the next few weeks, 📅 we will take a closer look at your me**es and when to worry.

🤷‍♀️ Why your child’s nose is stuffy? What causes a stuffy nose? 🤧 Today we’re getting to the bottom of this 👃 Welcome to our Tuesday posts, dedicated to our lovely little humans.

📅 Last week we touched on causes of a runny nose in children. This week we’ll focus on allergic rhinitis specifically.

👩‍🔬 WHAT IS RHINITIS?
📖 It is an inflammation of the covering of the inside of the nose (nasal mucosa) that is characterized by sneezing, nasal congestion, nasal itching, and runny nose (rhinorrhea).

👩‍🔬 OTHER SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:
▶️ Sneezing
▶️ Itching: eyes, ears,and palate (upper part of the mouth that separates the nose and the mouth)
▶️ Postnasal drip
▶️ Anosmia (loss of sense of smell)
▶️ Headache
▶️ Earache
▶️ Tearing
▶️ Red eyes
▶️ Fatigue
▶️ Drowsiness
👩‍🔬 COMPLICATIONS OF THIS ALLERGIC RHINITIS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
📍 Acute or chronic sinusitis.
📍 Otitis media (infection of the middle ear).
📍 Sleep disturbance or apnea (temporary cessation of breathing, especially during sleep).
📍 Dental problems (overbite): Caused by excessive breathing through the mouth.
📍 Palatal abnormalities.
📍 Eustachian tube dysfunction (malfunctioning of the drainage systems between the ear and nose) this alone can have many complications.
👩‍🔬 SOME OF THE FEATURES that may prompt you to worry your child may have allergic rhinitis are:
▶️ Nasal crease: A horizontal crease across the lower half of the bridge of the nose; caused by repeated upward rubbing of the tip of the nose by the palm of the hand. ▶️ Constant thin, watery, nasal secretions.
📍 Treatment is a combination of medication and limiting environmental irritants.
👩‍🔬 ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL measures and allergen avoidance:

▶️ These include keeping exposure to allergens such as pollen, dust mites, mold, pets, and strong perfumes to a minimum.
👩‍🔬 PHARMACOLOGIC MANAGEMENT:
▶️Patients are often successfully treated with oral antihistamines (medications like allecet and allergex etc), Normal saline nose spray or drops or both. Also regular use of a steroid nose spray may be more appropriate for patients with severe symptoms.

🥶 We all feel down once in a while ⛔️ Especially when life is not going our way 🔀 But how do you know when it's time to seek professional help 👩‍⚕️?
📅 Welcome to our Mental Health Monday’s post. Today we’ll take a closer look into what is medically known as major depressive disorder and the criteria used to diagnose it.
👩‍🔬 Among the criteria for a major depressive disorder, at least 5 of the following symptoms have to have been present during the same 2-week period (and at least 1 of the symptoms must be diminished interest/pleasure or depressed mood)
⭐️ Depressed mood: For children and adolescents, this can also be an irritable mood
⭐️ Diminished interest or loss of pleasure in almost all activities (anhedonia)
⭐️ Significant weight change or appetite disturbance: For children, this can be failure to achieve expected weight gain
⭐️ Sleep disturbance (insomnia or hypersomnia)
⭐️ Psychomotor agitation or retardation
⭐️ Fatigue or loss of energy
⭐️ Feelings of worthlessness
⭐️ Diminished ability to think or concentrate; indecisiveness
⭐️ Recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a su***de attempt or specific plan for committing su***de

👩‍🔬 Treatment includes a combination of medication (antidepressants) and counselling (psychotherapy).
🎯 Each person is different and may present differently. It is always best to leave the final diagnosis to your doctor/psychologist. However, we have put these symptoms here so you may have an idea of when to worry about yourself or those around you.
