🚨 CAN YOU USE AN AED ON SOMEONE WITH A PACEMAKER? 🚨

Absolutely YES. ⚡❤️

One of the biggest misconceptions around AEDs is that they should NOT be used on someone with a pacemaker… but in a real cardiac emergency, using an AED quickly could save that person’s life. 🙌

A pacemaker helps regulate the heartbeat — but it does NOT prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). If someone collapses, becomes unresponsive, and is not breathing normally, CPR and an AED should be used immediately. ⏱️

✅ Modern AEDs are designed to safely analyse the heart rhythm
✅ The AED will ONLY shock if needed
✅ Pacemakers are not damaged by AED shocks
✅ Simply place the pads slightly away from the pacemaker device and follow the voice prompts

The most dangerous thing in a cardiac arrest is hesitation. Every minute without defibrillation can reduce survival chances dramatically. ⚠️

That’s why public access AEDs are so important.
Because you don’t need to be a doctor to save a life — you just need the courage to act. 💚💛

The Amoul i7 AED is designed to guide rescuers step-by-step with clear voice prompts, helping ordinary people become lifesavers when every second counts. ⚡

🇿🇦❤️ TWO LIVES. ONE CHANCE TO ACT. ❤️🇿🇦

One of the biggest misconceptions during a cardiac emergency is that you should NOT use an AED on a pregnant woman.
⚠️ This is FALSE.

If a pregnant woman suffers sudden cardiac arrest, using an AED immediately can give BOTH the mother and baby the best possible chance of survival. 👶⚡❤️

✅ Start CPR immediately
✅ Apply the AED as soon as possible
✅ Follow the voice prompts
✅ Don’t be afraid to act

An AED shock is delivered to the heart — not the unborn baby — and delaying treatment can be far more dangerous than using the AED itself.

🚑 The Doctor Who Put a Defibrillator in an Ambulance

In 1965, Northern Irish cardiologist Frank Pantridge asked a revolutionary question:

“Why wait for the patient to reach the defibrillator? Why not take the defibrillator to the patient?”

At the time, defibrillators were large hospital machines weighing approximately 70 kilograms.

They were bulky, complex, and only operated by highly trained medical professionals.

Frank Pantridge changed that.

Working at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, he developed the world’s first portable defibrillator and placed it inside an ambulance.

For the first time in history, life-saving defibrillation could be delivered where it mattered most — at the patient’s side.

This breakthrough laid the foundation for:
⚡ Modern ambulance defibrillators
⚡ Emergency medical services
⚡ Public access AEDs
⚡ The compact devices we use today

❤️ More than 60 years later, the same life-saving technology now fits into the palm of your hands.

The Amoul i7 AED weighs only 3.5 kg, automatically analyses the heart rhythm, and can deliver up to 360 Joules biphasic energy with clear voice prompts to guide rescuers every step of the way.

From a 70 kg machine in an ambulance…
to a 3.5 kg AED that anyone can use.

The technology has changed.
The mission remains the same: save lives.

⚡ It All Began in 1899.

Today, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can guide an ordinary bystander to help save a life during sudden cardiac arrest.

But before 1899, doctors had very few options.

If a person's heart stopped, they could only try methods such as:
• Artificial respiration
• Chest massage
• Smelling salts
• Hot and cold stimulation
• And simply hoping the heart would start beating again

At the time, doctors did not yet understand ventricular fibrillation (VF) — a deadly heart rhythm where the heart quivers instead of pumping blood.

Then, in 1899, two Swiss scientists, Jean-Louis Prévost and Frédéric Batelli, made a groundbreaking discovery at the University of Geneva.

They found that:
1️⃣ A small electrical shock could cause ventricular fibrillation.
2️⃣ A larger, carefully applied shock could stop the abnormal rhythm and allow the heart to beat normally again.

For the first time in history, science proved that electricity could be used to reset the heart.

This remarkable discovery laid the foundation for every defibrillator and AED used around the world today.

❤️ More than 125 years later, this same principle continues to save lives in schools, airports, workplaces, sports clubs, and homes.

⚡ Modern devices like the Amoul i7 AED can automatically analyse the heart rhythm and, if needed, deliver up to 360 Joules biphasic energy with clear voice prompts to guide rescuers every step of the way.

125 years of innovation. One purpose: saving lives.

🚨 Swing for a Life – Helping Put More AEDs Where They’re Needed Most ❤️

We are incredibly excited to see NSRI hosting their “Swing for a Life” Fundraising Golf Day on Saturday, 6 June 2026.

Their goal is to raise R100,000 to purchase life-saving defibrillators (AEDs) that can make the difference between life and death when every second matters.

👏 A huge well done to the team at Station 32 for taking the initiative to improve emergency preparedness in their community.

If you are able to participate, sponsor, or donate, please consider supporting this outstanding cause. Together, we can help put more AEDs where they are needed most.

🔥 Burn Week Reminder 🔥

It’s not always the burns that kill.

Smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen can stop the heart within minutes — and in those critical moments, CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can make all the difference.

⚡ Fast action saves lives.

⚡ Fast defibrillation saves time.

⚡ AEDs help ordinary people respond before EMS arrives.
Would your workplace, school, estate, or business know where the nearest AED is?

⚡ Speed is crucial. Lives depend on it.

Sudden cardiac arrest doesn’t wait.
It doesn’t give warnings.
And without immediate action, survival chances drop by up to 10% every single minute.

That means in just 5 minutes, the chances of survival can already be cut in half…
and by 10 minutes, they’re close to zero without intervention.

💡 This is why AED access is everything.
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) gives a person the best possible chance of survival — but only if it’s available and used quickly.

👥 The reality is: Most cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals — at work, at home, at school, or in public spaces.
Which means the life that needs saving…
could be a colleague, a friend, a loved one — or even a complete stranger standing right next to you.

💚💛 At AED South Africa, our mission is simple:
Make lifesaving equipment accessible. Make lifesavers out of everyday people.
Because when the moment comes, it’s not about being a professional —
it’s about being prepared.

⚡ Don’t wait for help. Be the help.

AED vs Hospital Defibrillator — what’s the real difference? 🤔

They’re built for completely different people.

🟢 AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Designed for anyone to use.
It talks you through the process, checks the heart rhythm, and only delivers a shock if it’s needed.
No training. No panic. Just follow the prompts.

🔵 Manual / Hospital Defibrillator (like the i6)
Used by trained professionals like paramedics and doctors.
It includes advanced monitoring (ECG, oxygen, BP), and functions like pacing.

💡 But here’s something interesting…
The i6 actually includes an AED mode as well, meaning professionals can switch to a guided, automatic function when needed — combining advanced care with life-saving simplicity.

⚡ The difference comes down to this:
AEDs are made for the public.
Manual defibs are made for professionals.
And in a real emergency… the first person on scene is usually not a doctor.

👉 That’s why having an AED nearby can make all the difference.

🌍 Equip your space. Be ready when it counts.

🚨 Cardiac Arrest vs Heart Attack — do you know the difference?
These two emergencies are often confused, but understanding the difference can save a life.

❤️ Heart Attack
A circulation problem — blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked.
The heart is usually still beating, but the muscle is being damaged.

⚡ Cardiac Arrest
An electrical problem — the heart suddenly stops beating effectively.
The person collapses, becomes unresponsive, and stops breathing normally.

⏱️ Every second counts.
Without immediate action, survival chances drop rapidly.
That’s where CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) come in.
An AED can analyse the heart rhythm and deliver a shock if needed to help restart the heart.

💚 At AED South Africa, we focus on giving rescuers the best possible chance when it matters most.
That’s why our AEDs can escalate up to 360J biphasic — because not every cardiac arrest responds the same way.

⚠️ Important:
A heart attack can sometimes lead to cardiac arrest — and when that happens, having access to an AED can make all the difference.

⚡ Why AED Pad Placement Matters!

For defibrillation to work, the electrical shock must travel through the heart muscle.

Correct pad placement creates that pathway — giving the best chance of restoring a normal rhythm.

✔ Adult placement:
Upper right chest & lower left side (below the armpit)
✔ Pediatric placement:
One pad on the chest and one on the back
✅ Dual Mode Pads – Designed for Simplicity
At AED South Africa, our dual mode pads are designed to make saving a life as simple as possible:
✔ Clear visual diagrams for adult & pediatric use
✔ No guesswork — placement shown directly on the pads
✔ One set of pads for both adults and children
When every second counts, simplicity saves lives.
