Werner completed his Masters degree in Clinical Psychology (cum laude) at the University of South Africa. He was trained in different systemic psychotherapies with individuals, couples and family therapy, as well as psychological assessment where he conducted psychological assessments in the family advocate's office as part of child custody evaluations and neuropsychological assessments in Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital. Werner completed his internship in the Durban Hospital Complex at the Department of Behavioural Medicine. His internship included rotations through King Edward VII Hospital, Addington Hospital and King Dinizulu Hospital where he focused on individual and family therapy, psychological assessment, forensic assessment of both survivors of r**e and perpetrators and neuropsychological assessment of psychiatric patients. Werner completed his community service year as clinical psychologist at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi where he focused on supportive therapy and psychological assessment of a variety of conditions including intellectual disability, autistic spectrum disorder, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder and conduct disorder. He worked as part of a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists in treating patients with mental disorders as well as neuropsychological deficits. One of his key focus areas was assessment of r**e survivors, as well as pre-trial perpetrators in conjunction with Umlazi Magistrates Court. At present, Werner practices as clinical psychologist at Wholeness@Mosaiek and Netcare Olivedale Hospital. He is also in the process of completing his PhD in Psychology.
