Scam Red Flags You Should Never Ignore
Scammers are sneaky but once you know what to look for, their tricks become much easier to spot. Here are a few common warning signs that something might not be legit:
- Pressure to act fast : “This offer expires today!” or “You must pay now or face consequences!”
- Requests for personal or banking info: No legitimate company will ask for passwords or PINs out of the blue.
- Strange payment methods: If you're asked to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers, it’s a major red flag.
Scams can happen to anyone, and they often sound convincing. Take a breath, slow down, and double-check before you share any information or send money.

- Phone Scams: Calls claiming to be from banks, government departments, or even “grandchildren in trouble.”
- Email Phishing: Fake emails that look real, asking you to click a link or share personal details.
- Romance Scams on Social Media: Scammers build fake relationships to earn trust… then ask for money.
- Fake Tech Support: Pop-ups or calls warning about viruses, convincing you to give access to your computer.
These scams can happen to anyone. The best defence is awareness and taking time before acting.
Talk to your loved ones, especially older family members, about these scams. A simple conversation could protect them.
