Travis Michelson Biokineticist

Travis Michelson Biokineticist Functional Rehab for Optimal Wellness Biokinetics is a fairly new practice and until quite recently was quite unknown.

It has however taken root and established itself as an integral part of various treatment and prevention plans for those with Orthopaedic injuries, Chronic Conditions, or General Wellness. The profession of Biokinetics has evolved as a primary care health profession responding to the universal need for quality, accessible, cost-effective health care. It has proven to be indispensible in the field

of health care, and many have experienced the benefits of Biokinetic treatment. However, a large population of people, still do not know what a Biokineticist is, or what they do. Hopefully this article will shed some light on the topic. BIO + KINETICS = LIFE + MOVEMENT = LIFE THROUGH MOVEMENT
Movement is an essential part of everyday life, depended on constantly by people of all ages. Movement affects development, learning, communicating, working, health, and quality of life. At the most basic level, movement permits people to navigate and to stay oriented within their environment. It is critical for most work and recreation, and allows people to interact more fully. For these reasons, movement is a defining element of quality of life
Biokinetics is the science of movement, and the application of exercise in rehabilitative treatment of performance. Travis Michelson Biokinetics’ slogan is”Functional Rehab for Optimal Wellness”. At Eagle Canyon Gym & Wellness Centre, Travis Michelson Biokinetics (TMBio) has seen a wide variety of patients. From helping youngsters recover with a broken leg or sprained ankle, to helping adults recover with surgeries ranging from neck, back, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles. Biokinetics has proven to be very successful with preventative health care. At TMBio, young sports men and women can be assessed to identify weak areas that could possibly lead to future injuries. The specific weaknesses identified, can be improved by the prescription of safe and effective exercises. With the continual increase in the prevalence of Chronic Conditions, such as Cancer, Cardiovascular Conditions (heart attacks, valve repairs, hypertension), Metabolic Conditions (Cholesterol, Diabetes, High Blood pressure), etc., there is an increase in the demand to correctly manage these conditions through exercise. TMBio makes use of the amazing Technogym Wellness System to scientifically monitor patients who have been through heart surgeries, chemotherapy, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other metabolic conditions. Through effective exercises, people with chronic can effectively manage their conditions and improve their quality of life. As movement is a part of every day life, there are many people who struggle with Orthopaedic injuries or conditions. There are 2 different types of Orthopaedic injuries: Traumatic and Overuse. 1) Traumatic injuries occur suddenly, such as an ankle sprain, knee ligament injury, or shoulder dislocation. 2) Overuse injuries occur over a period of time with repetitive stress being placed on a specific joint, such as shin splints, anterior knee pain, lower back pain, or shoulder impingement. With any injury, there are compensations that occur in the body’s muscular system to help the person deal with the pain. The role of a Biokineticist is to identify the areas that have over-compensated due to the injuries, and to fix these compensations by using exercise as a form of therapy. The main goal is to improve stability around the joint and to enhance functionality of kinetic chain to ensure that the injury heals correctly and does not reoccur. Both physiotherapists and biokineticists focus on physical health and rehabilitation, but they have different areas of expertise and approaches.

Physiotherapist:

*Scope: Physiotherapists work on diagnosing, treating, and managing physical conditions resulting from injury, illness, or disability. Their work often involves a broad range of issues, including musculoskeletal, neurological, and respiratory problems.
*Treatment Methods: They use techniques like manual therapy, and modalities such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation to improve movement, alleviate pain, and enhance function.
*Education: Physiotherapists typically hold a degree in physiotherapy and are often required to be licensed or registered with a professional body.

Biokineticist:

*Scope: Biokineticists focus primarily on the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries through exercise and physical activity. They aim to optimize physical performance and improve quality of life through scientifically designed exercise programs.
*Treatment Methods: Their approach is largely exercise-based, emphasizing personalized exercise regimens to correct imbalances, improve functional movement, and enhance overall fitness.
*Education: Biokineticists generally have a degree in biokinetics or a related field, and their training is specifically geared towards exercise science and the application of exercise for health and performance enhancement.

In summary, while both professionals are involved in physical rehabilitation and improvement, physiotherapists often deal with a wider range of physical health issues and employ various therapeutic techniques, while biokineticists focus more on exercise-based interventions to enhance physical function and prevent injuries.

Understanding the difference between flexibility and mobility is key to optimising your movement and performance 🏆

Flexibility refers to the ability of a muscle or joint to stretch 💪🏼
While mobility is about freedom and ease with which you can move through a full range of motion. It’s not just about how far you can stretch, but how well you can control and use that range in real life movements 🤸🏼‍♂️

At TMBio, we focus on enhancing both aspect to help you move better, perform stronger and live pain free 🙏🏻

Embrace the balance between flexibility and mobility for a more dynamic and functional you 🧘🏼‍♀️

The hamstrings are a group of three muscles which predominantly act to flex the knee. Hamstrings consist of 3 muscles;
• Semitendinosus
• Semimembranosus
• Biceps femoris

The hamstrings are muscles which extend the hip and flex the knee. The hamstrings play an important part in the complex gait cycle during walking, which includes absorption of kinetic energy and protection of the knee and hip joints.

During the swing phase of walking, the hamstrings decelerate the forward motion of the tibia. There is a complex interplay between hamstrings contraction and quadriceps contraction, which is an antagonist muscle of hamstrings.
