Bacteria is in your garbage bins Calgary!

We hardly ever think about what can harm us in our own garbage bins. Most of us in Calgary, would rather not think about it! The reality is that your trash bins promote an optimal breeding ground for bacteria!

Bacteria can be spread throughout your garbage bin whether bags are used or not. It seems to thrive in these garbage filled, plastic, stink boxes -especially on hot summer days! Read more about the different types of bacterium that can grow in your household garbage bins!

How bacteria thrives in our garbage bins.
stinking green bin, garbage bins
Within just a few days of being left out in the sun, your green bin can begin to grow harmful bacteria. When bacteria starts to grow it smells, attracting animals and insects. They get into your garbage can and spread disease or nasty bacteria in and around your property. You may have noticed how bad a compost bin can smell after a few days of summer. The odours we all experience from these bins are produced by strong bacterial growth . A combination of heat, darkness, poor ventilation, garbage and/or decomposing food scraps, create the perfect breading ground for certain strains .

After over a decade of dealing with wheelie bins and everything that comes with them, studies in the UK show that frequent cleaning is required to reduce the risk of biological infection from waste containers.

Cleaning garbage bins yourself is a hard task to accomplish at home and you never know if you have tackled all of the contamination present. Routine professional bin cleaning with BinTastic, is the perfect solution for Calgary home owners.

Types of bacteria in your garbage bins?
A variety of different bacteria can thrive in your garbage bins. Due to the endless possible combinations of waste one can produce throughout their daily routine. The most common forms of bacteria found in Calgarys wheelie bins are Salmonella, E. Coli, and Listeria.

Salmonella

People are familiar with the Salmonella bacteria. Raw eggs, milk and poultry can be contaminated by Salmonella. This bacteria can be spread from person to person through poor hygiene. Salmonella poisoning can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, and headaches.

E. coli

Most strains of E. coli are harmless to humans. However, there are some strains that will make you ill. Violently ill. They are usually found in raw or undercooked meat during processing. Food items such as meatballs, minced meat or burgers are particularly susceptible. E. coli can also contaminate unpasteurized milk.

Listeria

Listeria can contaminate a variety of chilled, ready-made foods. Consumption can cause Listeriosis. Foods include soft cheese, smoked salmon, pre-packaged sandwiches, butter, pâté and cooked, sliced meats. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to listeriosis. This is why it’s recommended women avoid certain foods during pregnancy.

Even the common cold and flu, can also make it into your garbage bins through discarded tissues and napkins that contain the virus.

In the end, professional bin cleaning can help keep family, friends, and pets at arms length from harmful bacterium and diseases.
