Communicating with your children:
A big problem parents have always faced is the generation gap. Technology exacerbates this problem and steals time that should be spent in communication. How often have you sat with friends and family, all glued to your phones? Too often I'm sure. These devices have become our crutches, what we use to unwind, instead of conversation with those we love. Set time aside each day to seek out your child, to be intentional in spending time with them and debriefing on their day. Even 5 minutes is enough - we have to start somewhere, right?

Communicate!

Something I have realised throughout the course of the therapy I have provided for couples, is that underlying most of their difficulties is an inability to communicate properly. This can lead to a disconnect, and miscommunication that can culminate in fights that never resolve themselves. How we communicate is based on how we saw our parents communicating, and now we translate that into our own relationships. However, it is important to grow together, rather than stick to our preconceived notions. Listening is not the period where you plan what to say next; try really listening, actively, to what your spouse is saying, and see if it doesn't lead to an increase in relationship bliss.
