It's 'Older Persons Awareness Week'
Aging is surely no excuse to hang your walking shoes, on the contrary, it is the best reason to start or stay physically active. While age-related in the body is inevitable, overwhelming evidence exists to support the benefits of physical activity in older adults. These benefits include, but are not limited to:
1. slowing of the physiologic changes (often impairing exercise capacity and limiting activities of daily living) accompanying aging
2. maintaining a healthy body composition by slowing the age-related loss of muscle mass and increase in fat mass
3. promoting psychological and cognitive well-being
4. managing chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes
5. reducing the risk of physical disability
6. minimizing falls risk and incidence
7. optimizing independence
8. increasing longevity
It's never too late or too early to start and work towards a healthier you. Find a Bio on www.biokineticssa.org.za
